Journal ArticleDOI
Efficient High-Power Laser Diodes
Paul Crump,G. Erbert,H. Wenzel,C. Frevert,C. M. Schultz,K.-H. Hasler,R. Staske,Bernd Sumpf,A. Maassdorf,F. Bugge,S. Knigge,G. Trankle +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of efforts to increase ηE is presented and it is shown that for well-optimized structures, the residual losses are dominated by the p-side waveguide and nonideal internal quantum efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of fast self pulsations in two-section DFB lasers
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the detuning between the resonance frequencies of differently pumped DFB sections gives rise to two different pulsation mechanisms, dispersive self Q-switching of a singlemode and beating oscillations between two modes of nearly equal threshold gain.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-Brightness Quantum Well Tapered Lasers
Bernd Sumpf,K.-H. Hasler,Pawel Adamiec,Frank Bugge,F. Dittmar,J. Fricke,H. Wenzel,Martin Zorn,G. Erbert,Günther Tränkle +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a high-power quantum well laser with high brightness in the spectral range between 650 nm and 1080 nm was presented, with a narrow vertical far-field divergence down to angles of 15 degrees.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effective frequency method in the analysis of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers
H. Wenzel,Hans-Jürgen Wünsche +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an effective index model for vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) is reexamined and the basic equations are derived.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of optical VCSEL models on the simulation of oxide-confined devices
Peter Bienstman,Roel Baets,Josip Vukusic,Anders Larsson,M.J. Noble,M. Brunner,K. Gulden,Pierluigi Debernardi,L. Fratta,Gian Paolo Bava,H. Wenzel,Benjamin Klein,O. Conradi,Reinhold Pregla,S.A. Riyopoulos,J.-F.P. Seurin,Shun Lien Chuang +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare the results of different optical vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser models on the position-dependent effects of thin oxide apertures.
