Exploiting a patch antenna for strain measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, a dual-frequency patch antenna was designed and fabricated using conventional photolithography techniques, and the application of the patch antenna for strain measurement was evaluated by bonding a patch antenna to an aluminum cantilever beam and applying loads at the free end of the cantileve beam.
Journal ArticleDOI

Flexible Wireless Antenna Sensor: A Review

TL;DR: In this article, a new flexible sensor concept based on the microstrip patch antenna technology is presented, where the principle of the patch antenna as a sensing element and the wireless interrogation of the antenna sensors are presented first, followed by the description of antenna design and fabrication using flexible film components.
Journal ArticleDOI

Monitoring fatigue crack growth and opening using antenna sensors

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented an antenna sensor that is capable of monitoring the growth of fatigue cracks with a sub-millimeter resolution using microstrip patch antenna theory, where the resonant frequencies of a dual-frequency patch antenna are inversely proportional to the electrical lengths of corresponding antenna radiation modes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Broadband electrical impedance matching for piezoelectric ultrasound transducers

TL;DR: The effectiveness of the presented approach is demonstrated through the design, implementation, and characterization of impedance matching networks for a broadband acoustic emission sensor that improved the power of the acquired signal by 9 times.
Journal ArticleDOI

Buckling and initial postbuckling behavior of sandwich beams including transverse shear

TL;DR: In this article, an asymptotic solution for buckling and initial postbuckling behavior of sandwich beams is presented, where the effect of transverse shear is included, and the shear correction is calculated from energy equivalency.
