Journal ArticleDOI

The ratio of fibrinogen to red cells transfused affects survival in casualties receiving massive transfusions at an army combat support hospital.

TL;DR: In patients with combat-related trauma requiring massive transfusion, the transfusion of an increased fibrinogen: RBC ratio was independently associated with improved survival to hospital discharge, primarily by decreasing death from hemorrhage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forward Surgical Teams provide comparable outcomes to combat support hospitals during support and stabilization operations on the battlefield.

TL;DR: This analysis demonstrates that despite the operational and logistic challenges that burden the FST, this level of surgical care confers equivalent battlefield injury outcome results compared with the CSH.

Damage Control Resuscitation: Optimizing Blood Component use to Save Lives of Severely Injured Soldiers

TL;DR: Research efforts in the laboratory are investigating and characterizing a freeze-dried plasma compared to standard fresh frozen plasma, so the benefits of this blood product can be delivered to far forward locations for the early treatment of severely injured Soldiers.
