PaLI: A Jointly-Scaled Multilingual Language-Image Model
Xi Chen,Xiao Jing Wang,Soravit Changpinyo,AJ Piergiovanni,Piotr Padlewski,Daniel M Salz,Sebastian Goodman,Adam Grycner,Basil Mustafa,Lucas Beyer,Alexander Kolesnikov,Joan Puigcerver,Nan Ding,Keran Rong,Hassan Akbari,Gaurav Mishra,Linting Xue,Ashish V. Thapliyal,James Bradbury,Weicheng Kuo,Mojtaba Seyedhosseini,Chao Jia,Burcu Karagol Ayan,Carlos Riquelme,Andreas Steiner,Anelia Angelova,Xiaohua Zhai,Neil Houlsby,Radu Soricut +28 more
TL;DR: PaLI achieves state-of-the-art in multiple vision and language tasks, while retaining a simple, modular, and scalable design.
Journal ArticleDOI
An International collaborative pathologic study of surgical lung biopsies from mustard gas-exposed patients
Mostafa Ghanei,Henry D. Tazelaar,Marco Chilosi,Ali Amini Harandi,Mohammadreza Peyman,Hassan Akbari,Hassan Shamsaei,Moslem Bahadori,Jafar Aslani,Azam Mohammadi +9 more
TL;DR: About half of patients had diagnostic constrictive bronchiolitis, or bronchiolectasis and mucus stasis consistent with more proximal luminal compromise, which indicates that the diagnosis of chronic lung disease due to SM may be difficult.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards reconstructing intelligible speech from the human auditory cortex.
Hassan Akbari,Bahar Khalighinejad,Jose L. Herrero,Ashesh D. Mehta,Ashesh D. Mehta,Nima Mesgarani +5 more
TL;DR: The results show that a deep neural network model that directly estimates the parameters of a speech synthesizer from all neural frequencies achieves the highest subjective and objective scores on a digit recognition task, improving the intelligibility by 65% over the baseline method which used linear regression to reconstruct the auditory spectrogram.
Journal ArticleDOI
The powerful immune system against powerful COVID-19: A hypothesis.
TL;DR: A novel hypothesis is provided to describe how an increase in cellular adenosine triphosphate (c-ATP) can potentially improve the efficiency of innate and adaptive immune systems to either prevent and fight off COVID-19.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of tree cover and tree species on microclimate and pedestrian comfort in a residential district in Iran
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of urban greening on microclimate and pedestrian comfort is studied using ENVI met v4 for a residential district in Tabriz, Iran, where four scenarios with different trees species and patterns were simulated during typical summer and winter days, to assess benefits and disadvantages during different seasons.
