On network bandwidth allocation policies and feedback control algorithms for packet networks

TL;DR: This paper summarizes the experience on the design of network bandwidth allocation policies and distributed rate calculation algorithms for packet-switched networks and discusses two rate allocation policies: the generalized max–min (GMM) and the weight-proportional max-min (WPMM) policies, both of which generalize the classical max–Min rate allocation policy.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Rate allocation policies and explicit feedback control algorithms for packet networks

TL;DR: An in-depth survey on network bandwidth allocation policies and design methodologies of distributed rate calculation algorithms in packet-switched networks is presented and two rate allocation policies are discussed: the generalizedmax-min and the generic weight- proportional max-min policies.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Fair network bandwidth allocation with minimum rate guarantee and its ABR implementations

TL;DR: This paper presents a network bandwidth allocation policy to support each ABR connection's MCR requirement, as well as its peak cell rate (PCR) constraint, and develops two explicit-rate based ABR algorithms consistent with the ATM Forum ABR traffic management framework.
Journal ArticleDOI

A generic weight-proportional bandwidth sharing policy for ATM ABR service

TL;DR: Simulation results on various network configurations demonstrate that the distributed ABR flow control algorithm has a very fast convergence property and a formal proof of the distributed algorithm’s convergence to the WPMM policy under any network configuration and any set of link distances.
Journal ArticleDOI

Generalized max-min rate allocation: Theory and a simple implementation

TL;DR: A generalized max-min (GMM) rate allocation policy is presented, which supports both the MCR and PCR requirements for each flow and a simple distributed algorithm using the ABR flow control protocol is developed to achieve the GMM rate allocation in a distributed network environment.
