TL;DR: In this paper, the H1 detector at HERA was used for a class of deep inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS) events (5 < Q2 < 120 GeV2) at low Bjorken-x (10−4 < x < 10−2) which have almost no hadronic energy flow in a large interval of pseudo-rapidity around the proton remnant direction and which cannot be attributed to our present understanding of DIS and fluctuations in final state hadronic fragmentation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the energy calibration of the H1 liquid argon calorimeter modules with electrons from a test beam in the energy range of 3.7 GeV to 80 GeV is presented.
Abstract: Results are presented on the energy calibration of the H1 liquid argon calorimeter modules with electrons from a test beam in the energy range of 3.7 GeV to 80 GeV. The method to determine the calibration for the Hl experiment from these measurements by the use of detailed simulations is described . Various systematic checks of this calibration are given. The calorimeter response is uniform in space within ±1% and linear with energy within ±1%. An average energy resolution of about 11.5%/ E [GeV] is achieved .

TL;DR: In this article, the performances of the H1 liquid argon calorimeter modules for the energy measurements and identification of electrons are studied with test data taken at CERN in the energy range 5 to 166 GeV.
Abstract: The performances of the H1 liquid argon calorimeter modules for the energy measurements and identification of electrons are studied with test data taken at CERN in the energy range 5 to 166 GeV. Various electron identification estimators exploiting global or detailed shower characteristics are studied and compared. The usage of impact position measurements is also discussed. A best combination of robust shower estimators leads typically to π-misidentification probabilities in the range 1.5 to 5.0 × 10−3 at 30 GeV for 95% electron detection efficiency. This further reduces to ∼ 10−4 for these pions to be misidentified as electrons below 25 GeV.

TL;DR: In this article, global properties of the hadronic final state in deep inelastic scattering events at HERA are investigated and the data are corrected for detector effects and are compared directly with QCD phenomenology.
Abstract: Global properties of the hadronic final state in deep inelastic scattering events at HERA are investigated. The data are corrected for detector effects and are compared directly with QCD phenomenology. Energy flows in both the laboratory frame and the hadronic centre of mass system and energy-energy correlations in the laboratory frame are presented. Comparing various QCD models, the colour dipole model provides the only satisfactory description of the data. In the hadronic centre of mass system the momentum components of charged particles longitudinal and transverse to the virtual boson direction are measured and compared with lower energy lepton-nucleon scattering data as well as withe+e− dat from LEP.

TL;DR: In this article, the ARGUS detector has been used to study the production of quark and gluonic Υ(1S) decays and ϕ meson and baryon fragmentation.
Abstract: The production ofK *+(892),K *0(892),ρ 0(770) andω(783) vector mesons inρ 0(770) events as well as in the gluonic Υ(1S) decays andρ 0(770) decays has been studied using the ARGUS detector. Combining these results with data on pseudoscalar meson, ϕ meson and baryon production collected with the same detector allow comprehensive studies of quark and gluon fragmentation. Model independent information ons quark and vector meson suppression (s/u=0.37±0.04,V/(V+P) π=0.21±0.04 andV/(V+P) K =0.34±0.03)) are derived. The data are compared with predictions from the models Jetset 7.3 and UCLA 7.31.

Abstract: The properties of four PbF2 crystals of size 21 × 21 × 175 mm3 were studied with electron and pion beams in the energy range from 1 to 6 GeV An energy resolution for electrons of 63%/√E/GeV was achieved with a 2 × 2 matrix of four PbF2 crystals, which corresponds to 56%/√E/GeV when corrected for lateral leakage by Monte Carlo simulations The deviation from linearity was smaller than 05% The time resolution was found to be better than 06 ns We studied also optical properties, radiation hardness, position resolution and spatial homogeneity An efficient separation of electromagnetic and hadronic showers was achieved

TL;DR: In this paper, a search in the H1 experiment at HERA for scalar and vector leptoquarks, leptogluons and squarks coupling to first generation fermions is presented in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 425 nb−1.
Abstract: A search in the H1 experiment at HERA for scalar and vector leptoquarks, leptogluons and squarks coupling to first generation fermions is presented in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 425 nb−1. For masses ranging up to ∼275 GeV, no significant evidence for the direct production of such particles is found in various possible decay channels. At high masses and beyond the centre of mass energy of 296 GeV a contact interaction analysis is used to further constrain the couplings and masses of new vector leptoquarks and to set lower limits on compositeness scales.

Abstract: Multi-jet production is observed in deep-inelastic electron proton scattering with the H1 detector at HERA. Jet rates for momentum transfers squared up to 500 GeV2 are determined using the JADE jet clustering algorithm. They are found to be in agreement with predictions from QCD based models.

TL;DR: Using the ARGUS detector at DORIS II, flavour-dependent kaon production in B meson decays has been studied as discussed by the authors using the leptons as flavour tags, and it has been possible to separately measure the multiplicities of K+,K− and Ks0 in inclusiveB decays and in semileptonic B decays.
Abstract: Using the ARGUS detector at thee+e− storage ring DORIS II, flavour-dependent kaon production inB meson decays has been studied. Using the leptons as flavour tags, it has been possible to separately measure the multiplicities ofK+,K− andKs0 in inclusiveB decays and in semileptonicB decays. The kaon production in semileptonicB decays was further used to estimate the ratio of charmed decays over all decays, and thus also the fraction of charmlessB decays.

TL;DR: In this article, feed-forward networks, trained on the topological energy sums from the H1 calorimeter and on first level tracking trigger information, provide an additional background suppression factor.
Abstract: At the HERA e-p collider the expected machine background rates are 10{sup 5} times higher than the rates from physics. The greatest challenge in the trigger is finding methods which suppress the machine background without using lengthy pattern recognition algorithms. The authors present investigations show that feed-forward networks, trained on the topological energy sums from the H1 calorimeter and on first level tracking trigger information, provide an additional background suppression factor.
