Abstract: A personal-identification-information transmitting unit transmits personal identification information. A portable authentication apparatus (10) receives the personal identification information, and performs an authentication process based on the personal identification information received and personal identification information (12a) stored in the portable authentication apparatus in advance. The portable authentication apparatus (10) includes a control unit (11) that controls provision of at least one of predetermined data (12a) and software (12b) to the information processing apparatus, based on a result of the authentication process. The portable authentication apparatus may take the form of a memory stick for insertion into a socket of a PC, and having a wireless link with the transmitting unit.

TL;DR: In this paper, a computer system includes plural servers in which virtual machines are arranged; plural power supply apparatuses that supply electric power to the servers; and a control apparatus that controls arrangement of the virtual machines in the servers.
Abstract: A computer system includes plural servers in which virtual machines are arranged; plural power supply apparatuses that supply electric power to the servers; and a control apparatus that controls arrangement of the virtual machines in the servers. The control apparatus solves an integer programming problem whose objective function is total power consumption by the servers and by the power supply apparatuses, the total power consumption being described as a function of the arrangement of the virtual machines; and arranges the virtual machines based on a solution of the integer programming problem.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method of controlling air conditioning to cool servers, which includes selecting, when the number of operating servers is a certain threshold number or more, a first mode, in which the pressure of a cold aisle is set higher than the pressure in a hot aisle, and when the operating servers are less than the threshold number, a second mode, where the cold aisle pressure is equal to the hot aisle pressure.
Abstract: A method of controlling air conditioning to cool servers, the method includes selecting, when the number of operating servers is a certain threshold number or more, a first mode, in which the pressure of a cold aisle is set higher than the pressure of a hot aisle; selecting, when the number of operating servers is less than the certain threshold number, a second mode, in which the pressure of the cold aisle is set equal to the pressure of the hot aisle; and informing the operating servers of whether a current mode is the first mode or the second mode, and when the current mode is the first mode, driving fans of the servers at a minimum rotational speed in a specification, and when the current mode is the second mode, driving the fans of the servers at a rotational speed higher than the minimum rotational speed in the specification.

TL;DR: In this paper, a common interface for managing cryptographic keys is provided, where a request to manage a cryptographic key may be received in a first interface format, translated to a common format, and then executed remotely from the first interface.
Abstract: A common interface for managing cryptographic keys is provided. A request to manage a cryptographic key may be received in a first interface format, translated to a common interface format, and then executed remotely from the first interface. Return arguments may then be translated from the common interface format to a format compatible with the first interface and communicated securely to the first interface. The cryptographic keys may be used in connection with a secure data parser that secures data by randomly distributing data within a data set into two or more shares.

TL;DR: In this paper, an information-processing apparatus determines whether a stimulation generation unit and a background virtual object contact each other based on position and orientation information about the stimulation generator and position and orientations of the background object.
Abstract: An information-processing apparatus determines whether a stimulation generation unit and a background virtual object contact each other based on position and orientation information about the stimulation generation unit and position and orientation information about the background virtual object. If it is determined that the stimulation generation unit and the background virtual object contact each other, the information-processing apparatus determines whether the stimulation generation unit is included within an attention range. The information-processing apparatus generates operation setting information for controlling an operation of the stimulation generation unit according to a result of the determination and outputs the generated operation setting information to the stimulation generation unit.

TL;DR: In this article, a biaxial torsion scan mirror with a deformable membrane surface is described, which can be deformed to a parabola with greater than 3mm sag at the membrane center.
Abstract: A biaxial torsion scan mirror with a deformable membrane surface is described. The 700-mm-diameter optical surface can be tilted /spl plusmn/4/spl deg/ about two orthogonal axes and can be deformed to a parabola with greater than 3-mm sag at the membrane center. The surface, therefore, acts as a lens with variable focal length ranging from /spl infin/ to 10 mm. Mirror architecture and applications in three-dimensional beam pointing and scanning are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, an integrated management module (IMM) is pre-stored with a correspondence relationship between marker information, identification information, and asset numbers of the internal devices of a server rack system.
Abstract: A server rack system includes a communication module, multiple internal devices, and an integrated management module (IMM) The internal devices are coupled to the communication module The IMM is coupled to the communication module and communicates with the internal devices through the communication module The IMM is pre-stored with a correspondence relationship between marker information, identification information, and asset numbers of the internal devices In operation of the system, the IMM reads the identification information of the internal devices through the communication module, and obtains a correspondence relationship between the marker information and asset numbers of the internal devices from the correspondence relationship according to the identification information to thereby perform asset management of the internal devices
