Journal ArticleDOI
Obesity and the Environment: Where Do We Go from Here?
TL;DR: It is estimated that affecting energy balance by 100 kilocalories per day (by a combination of reductions in energy intake and increases in physical activity) could prevent weight gain in most of the population.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized trial of a low-carbohydrate diet for obesity.
Gary D. Foster,Holly R. Wyatt,James O. Hill,Brian G. McGuckin,Carrie Brill,B. Selma Mohammed,Philippe Szapary,Daniel J. Rader,Joel S. Edman,Samuel Klein +9 more
TL;DR: The low-carbohydrate diet produced a greater weight loss than did the conventional diet for the first six months, but the differences were not significant at one year and the low- carbohydrate diet was associated with a greater improvement in some risk factors for coronary heart disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Energy Balance and Obesity
TL;DR: The interplay among energy intake, energy expenditure, and body energy stores is described and illustrates how an understanding of energy balance can help us develop strategies to reduce obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
How much physical activity is enough to prevent unhealthy weight gain? Outcome of the IASO 1st Stock Conference and consensus statement
Wim H. M. Saris,Steven N. Blair,M. A. van Baak,S. B. Eaton,Peter Davies,L. Di Pietro,Mikael Fogelholm,Aila Rissanen,Dale A. Schoeller,Boyd Swinburn,Angelo Tremblay,Klaas R. Westerterp,Holly R. Wyatt +12 more
TL;DR: A consensus meeting was held in Bangkok, 21–23 May 2002, where experts and young scientists in the field of physical activity, energy expenditure and body‐weight regulation discussed the different aspects ofPhysical activity in relation to the emerging problem of obesity worldwide.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized, Phase 3 Trial of Naltrexone SR/bupropion SR on Weight and Obesity-Related Risk Factors (COR-II)
Caroline M. Apovian,Louis J. Aronne,Domenica Rubino,Christopher D. Still,Holly R. Wyatt,Colleen Burns,Dennis Dong Hwan Kim,Eduardo Dunayevich +7 more
TL;DR: To examine the effects of naltrexone/bupropion (NB) combination therapy on weight and weight‐related risk factors in overweight and obese participants, a large number of participants were obese or overweight.
