TL;DR: A comprehensive review of palladium diselenide (PdSe2) nanosheets is presented in this paper, including its structure, properties, synthesis, and applications.
Abstract: The rapid development of two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides has been possible owing to their special structures and remarkable properties. In particular, palladium diselenide (PdSe2) with a novel pentagonal structure and unique physical characteristics have recently attracted extensive research interest. Consequently, tremendous research progress has been achieved regarding the physics, chemistry, and electronics of PdSe2. Accordingly, in this review, we recapitulate and summarize the most recent research on PdSe2, including its structure, properties, synthesis, and applications. First, a mechanical exfoliation method to obtain PdSe2 nanosheets is introduced, and large-area synthesis strategies are explained with respect to chemical vapor deposition and metal selenization. Next, the electronic and optoelectronic properties of PdSe2 and related heterostructures, such as field-effect transistors, photodetectors, sensors, and thermoelectric devices, are discussed. Subsequently, the integration of systems into infrared image sensors on the basis of PdSe2 van der Waals heterostructures is explored. Finally, future opportunities are highlighted to serve as a general guide for physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and engineers. Therefore, this comprehensive review may shed light on the research conducted by the 2D material community.

TL;DR: The data suggest that HRS1 may be involved in the modulation of primary root and root hair growth in Pi-deprived Arabidopsis seedlings, and provide useful clues for further research into the function of H RS1 and its homologs and the mechanisms behind RSA changes under Pi-deficient conditions.
Abstract: Phosphate (Pi) deficiency causes dramatic root system architecture (RSA) changes in higher plants. Here we report that overexpression of HRS1 leads to enhanced sensitivity to low Pi-elicited inhibition of primary root growth in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings. Bioinformatic investigations uncovered that HRS1 and its six homologs encode putative G2-like transcription factors in Arabidopsis. Analysis of promoter::GUS reporter lines revealed that HRS1 transcripts were present mainly in the root hair region and root hair cells under Pi-sufficient conditions. Pi deprivation increased HRS1 expression level and expanded its expression domain. Although HRS1 knockout mutant did not differ from wild type (WT) control irrespective of Pi status, its overexpression lines were significantly more susceptible to low Pi-elicited primary root shortening. In both WT and HRS1 overexpression seedlings, low Pi-induced primary root shortening was accompanied by enhanced root hair cell differentiation, but this enhancement occurred to a greater extent in the latter genotype. Collectively, our data suggest that HRS1 may be involved in the modulation of primary root and root hair growth in Pi-deprived Arabidopsis seedlings, and provide useful clues for further research into the function of HRS1 and its homologs and the mechanisms behind RSA changes under Pi-deficient conditions.

TL;DR: This is the first report of the synthesis of (1H)-isochromen-1-imines that involves a silver(I)-catalyzed, regiocontrolled intramolecular addition of the carbonyl group of the amide moiety towards an alkyne.
Abstract: An efficient avenue for the facile and atom-economic synthesis of (1H)-isochromen-1- imines has been developed, and a broad spectrum of substrates can participate in the process effectively to produce the desired products in good yields. Significantly, this is the first report of the synthesis of (1H)-isochromen-1-imines that involves a silver(I)-catalyzed, regiocontrolled intramolecular addition of the carbonyl group of the amide moiety towards an alkyne.

TL;DR: In this paper, a double-heterostructured Bi2O3/Bi4Ti3O12/TiO2 nanobelt was constructed by depositing bismuth hydroxide onto the TiO2 surface.
Abstract: Surface engineering of TiO2 nanobelts by the controlled assembly of functional heterostructures represents an effective approach for the synthesis of high-performance photocatalysts. In this study, we prepared a novel Bi2O3/Bi4Ti3O12/TiO2 double-heterostructured nanobelt by depositing bismuth hydroxide onto the TiO2 nanobelt surface. A thermal annealing treatment led to the formation of a Bi4Ti3O12 interlayer that functioned as a bridge to link Bi2O3 and TiO2. The double-heterostructured TiO2 nanobelts exhibited better UV light photocatalytic performance than commercial P25. Importantly, the photocatalytic activity in the visible range was markedly better than that of Bi2O3 and Bi2O3/TiO2 heterostructured TiO2 nanobelts. The enhanced performance was accounted for by the material band structures where the matching was improved by the unique interlayer.

TL;DR: It is hopeful that the well-designed multimodule probe can serve as a practical tool for understanding the metabolism and homeostasis of H2O2 in a complex biological system.
Abstract: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an important reactive oxygen species (ROS). Maintaining the H2O2 concentration at a normal level is critical to achieve the normal physiological activities of cells, which otherwise might trigger various diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new and practical multisignaling sensors for both visualization of intracellular H2O2 and accurate detection of extracellular H2O2. In this paper, a novel multichannel signaling fluorescence-electrochemistry combined probe 1 (FE-H2O2) is presented for imaging and detection of H2O2 in living cell systems. In our design, the probe FE-H2O2 consists of a H2O2 reaction site and 4-ferrocenyl(vinyl)pyridine unit which affords chromogenic, fluorescent, and electrochemical signals. These structural motifs yield a combined chromogenic, fluorescent, and redox sensor in a single molecule. Probe FE-H2O2 showed a "Turn-On" fluorescence response to H2O2, which can be used for monitoring intracellular H2O2 in vivo. Furthermore, the electrochemical response of probe FE-H2O2 was decreased after the addition of H2O2, which can be applied for accurate detection of H2O2 released from living cells. When the fluorescence imaging method is combined with electrochemical analysis technology, it is hopeful that the well-designed multimodule probe can serve as a practical tool for understanding the metabolism and homeostasis of H2O2 in a complex biological system.

TL;DR: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one, which seems an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Abstract: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one. I remember first hearing about it at school. It seemed an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality. Usually familiarity dulls this sense of the bizarre, but in the case of i it was the reverse: over the years the sense of its surreal nature intensified. It seemed that it was impossible to write mathematics that described the real world in …

TL;DR: This Review describes how the tunable electronic structure of TMDs makes them attractive for a variety of applications, as well as electrically active materials in opto-electronics.
Abstract: Ultrathin two-dimensional nanosheets of layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are fundamentally and technologically intriguing. In contrast to the graphene sheet, they are chemically versatile. Mono- or few-layered TMDs - obtained either through exfoliation of bulk materials or bottom-up syntheses - are direct-gap semiconductors whose bandgap energy, as well as carrier type (n- or p-type), varies between compounds depending on their composition, structure and dimensionality. In this Review, we describe how the tunable electronic structure of TMDs makes them attractive for a variety of applications. They have been investigated as chemically active electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution and hydrosulfurization, as well as electrically active materials in opto-electronics. Their morphologies and properties are also useful for energy storage applications such as electrodes for Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors.
