We report the first attempt of using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) in the shape of nanoparticles that were doped with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based sensing of molecular species. Specifically, AuNPs doped molecularly imprinted nano-spheres (AuNPs@nanoMIPs) were synthesized by one-pot precipitation polymerization using Sudan IV as the template for the SERS sensing. The AuNPs@nanoMIPs were characterized by various modes of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) that showed the exact location of the AuNPs inside the MIP particles. The effects of Au concentration and solution stirring on the shape and the polydispersity of the particles were studied. Significant enhancement of the Raman signals was observed only when the MIP particles were doped with the AuNPs. The SERS signal improved significantly with increase in the Au concentration inside the AuNPs@nanoMIPs. Selectivity measurements of the Sudan IV imprinted AuNPs@nanoMIPs carried out with different Sudan derivatives showed high selectivity of the AuNPs-doped MIP particles.

Molecularly imprinted polymer particles: Formation, characterization and application

A novel in situ molecularly imprinted sol–gel nanomembrane using nylon 6 as backbone was prepared by the electrospinning technique and coupled on-line with high-performance liquid chromatography. The prepared electrospun membrane exhibited extensive selectivity toward acesulfame in the presence of some selected sweeteners in a beverage sample, while the porosity and mechanical stability remained. The prepared electrospun membrane could be applied for 35 consequence extractions without a significant change in extraction recovery, swelling, and flooding. To achieve the best condition and efficiency for on-line extraction, the effect of influential parameters was investigated. The limit of detection (signal/noise = 3:1) and limit of quantification (signal/noise = 10:1) were 0.6 and 2.0 ng/mL for acesulfame in the beverage samples, respectively. The linearity for the acesulfame was in the range of 2.0–250 ng/mL in beverage samples. The coefficients of determination values were ≥0.997 for all runs. The extraction recoveries of acesulfame in the beverage samples were between 80 and 85%.

Preparation of molecularly imprinted nanospheres by premix membrane emulsification technique

Preparation of uniform size molecularly imprinted nanospheres for erythromycin with good selectivity and high binding capacity by precipitation polymerization were presented, in which erythromycin, methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate are used as template molecule, functional monomer and cross-linker, respectively. The synthesis conditions of molecularly imprinted nanospheres were optimized and the optimal molar ratio of erythromycin to functional monomer is 1:3. The molecularly imprinted polymers were characterized by scanning electron microscope, laser particle size analyzer and BET, respectively. The results suggested that molecularly imprinted nanospheres for erythromycin exhibited spherical shape and good monodispersity. Selectivity analysis indicated that the imprinted nanospheres could specifically recognize erythromycin from its structure analogues. Furthermore, adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm of the imprinted nanospheres were employed to investigate the binding characteristics of the imprinted nanospheres. The results showed that the imprinted nanospheres have high adsorption capacity for erythromycin, and the maximum theoretical static binding capacity is up to 267.0188 mg g(-1).
