Abstract: Through the traffic investigation and data analysis of an intersection in Harbin,an intersection optimization plan is proposed from the aspect of the space and time transportation design optimization,as well as the intersection′s present situation and the optimization plan are studied with VISSIM transportation simulation software. By comparing old and new plans, the conclusion that the new plan can improve the traffic efficiency of intersections is deduced.

TL;DR: Uniform design experimentation was introduced to combine different optimization measures into strategies and achieve the minimum time cost in model construction and identified the optimal strategy to reduce the overall control delay at the signalized intersection.
Abstract: Operational performance optimization of signalized intersections is one of the most important tasks for traffic engineers and researchers. To compensate for the limitations of practical implementation, simulation software packages have been widely used to evaluate different optimization strategies and thus to improve the efficiency of the intersections as well as the entire network. However, for the existing optimization studies on signalized intersections, the relationships among various optimization measures and the combination of strategies have not been fully investigated. In this paper, uniform design experimentation was introduced to combine different optimization measures into strategies and achieve the minimum time cost in model construction. VISSIM software package was then calibrated and used to evaluate various optimization strategies and identify the one with the best measurement of performance, namely, control delay at the signalized intersection. By taking a representative congested intersection in Shanghai as a case study, the optimal strategy was identified to reduce the overall control delay by 27.3%, which further verified the modeling capability of the proposed method.

TL;DR: This paper proposes the method system of simulation optimization for intersection with the combination of microscopic traffic software and the analysis of data, and makes strategy optimization for typical cross intersection on the aspects of geometric optimization and signal timing.
Abstract: This paper first describe the role of microscopic traffic simulation in optimize organization, and the advantages in combining VISSIM and Synchro to optimize simulation. Then this paper proposes the method system of simulation optimization for intersection with the combination of microscopic traffic software and the analysis of data. On the basis of practical data and VISSIM simulation, this paper makes strategy optimization for typical cross intersection on the aspects of geometric optimization and signal timing. The optimum strategy can be found through the improvements on comparing the average delay, average queue length, the remaining capacity and saturation with VISSIM and Synchro. The specific intersection given in this paper has an obviously improvement through geometry and signal timing optimization. The average queue length is improved significantly; the saturation of the intersection reduces from 0.65 to 0.51, and the average delay per vehicle decreased from 54.2s to 38.9s.Practice shows that this method system has good operability and practicality.

TL;DR: Simulation of signal timing for multi intersections is implemented based on the vissim software, results show that the average of queue length and delay time are decreased after optimization.
Abstract: Webster signal timing method is adopted for single intersection based on investigation of path conditions and traffic flow. Key intersection and public cycle time are determined by comparing cycle time of all intersections. Based on the spacing between adjacent intersections and path speed, signal timing and phase difference are adjusted so that some vehicles can go through multi intersections continuously. Two intersections of Xinhua road and Jianshe road, Xinhua road and Jianghan north road in Wuhan city as an example, simulation of signal timing for multi intersections is implemented based on the vissim software, results show that the average of queue length and delay time are decreased after optimization.

TL;DR: The speed and maneuvering performance of theheavy vehicles and ordinary passenger cars is analyzed, and the heavy vehicles' interruption to the behavior of the drivers nearby is studied, to establish an intersection traffic flow simulation model for port collecting and distributing.
Abstract: the speed and maneuvering performance of the heavy vehicles and ordinary passenger cars is analyzed in this paper, and we further study the heavy vehicles' interruption to the behavior of the drivers nearby. Lane-changing behavior will be seen near the intersection due to different driving destinations. Based on the cellular automaton simulation model, we establish an intersection traffic flow simulation model for port collecting and distributing. By simulations, the average vehicle control delay and queue evaluation length can be got, and eventually we analyze the traffic simulation results through the space-time diagram
