Bibliometrics is a branch of the Scientometrics that permits the study of the scientific activity. The original article is their unit analysis. The interest in this area is based in their implications on decision making and Knowledge Management. Because it suggests research in topics poorly studied or evaluates others. Bibliometrics also evaluates scientific production of researchers, institutions and countries. International trends in mining tailings publications: A descriptive bibliometric study

Objective: Characterize the output of scientific literature in Latin America between 2000 and 2007 with respect to physical therapy/ kinesiology. Method: The authors conducted a retrospective study of 1,700 articles on physical therapy/kinesiology published in the SciELO and LILLACS databases. The variables studied were: document frequency, number of documents found, scientific output per country, scientific output for each describer with respect to physical therapy/kinesiology, number of authors, institutional affiliation, type of publication, language, type of study, and number of works listed in the bibliography. Results: The trend in scientific output per country shows Brazil leads in Latin America, with 70.1 % of the scientific output on physical therapy/kinesiology, followed by Chile with 13.4 %, Colombia

Introduccion: A lo largo de los anos se han realizado multiples investigaciones sobre reanimacion cardiopulmonar (RCP); aparecen nuevas evidencias y se publican regularmente articulos cientificos que muestran su desarrollo. Objetivo: Caracterizar las publicaciones cientificas sobre RCP en Cuba. Metodos: Estudio bibliometrico descriptivo, retrospectivo, realizado entre enero de 1998 y noviembre de 2018. Se revisaron todas las publicaciones cubanas en las revistas medicas indexadas en el Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo). No se incluyeron editoriales ni cartas al editor. Se diseno una ficha de registro en Microsoft Office Excel 2010, en la cual se organizo la informacion de los articulos para su identificacion, conteo y analisis de los indicadores bibliometricos. Resultados: De los 83 articulos indexados en Scielo, solo 24 cumplieron los criterios de inclusion; existio un predominio de los articulos originales con 58,3 %, seguido de las revisiones. En cuanto al numero de autores por articulo, la categoria de 3 a 6 autores fue la mas frecuente. El ano de mayor publicacion fue 2017, con 5 articulos. Conclusiones: La produccion cientifica relacionada con la reanimacion cardiopulmocerebral ha sido inestable y pobre. Los periodos de mayor productividad cientifica fueron durante los anos 2003 y 2017. Se muestra un predominio de los articulos originales seguidos por las revisiones.

Publicaciones cubanas sobre reanimación cardiopulmocerebral: una aproximación bibliométrica. 1998 - 2018

Resumo Objetivou-se analisar o perfil das teses e dissertações sobre travestilidade, transexualidade e saúde nos Programas de Pós-Graduação stricto sensu do Brasil, por meio de um estudo fundamentado no referencial teórico-metodológico da análise bibliométrica. Os 65 trabalhos selecionados foram extraídos do Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior e da Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações. Constata-se que a maioria das produções são dissertações (82%) advindas dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Saúde Coletiva (27%) e de Instituições Federais de Educação Superior (65%), localizadas nas regiões Sul e Sudeste (70%). A abordagem qualitativa foi a mais utilizada (82%) e o processo transexualizador no Sistema Único de Saúde foi o tema predominante (35%). O estudo revelou que as teses e dissertações brasileiras sobre a tríade travestilidade-transexualidade-saúde estão em ascensão nos últimos vinte anos, com diminuição no enfoque no adoecimento das travestis e de transexuais e aumento do foco nos aspectos sociais, organizacionais e políticos que interferem no acesso dessas pessoas aos serviços de saúde. Ainda assim, é preciso expandir as pesquisas sobre a temática para as demais regiões do país, impactando positivamente na produção científica e em um sistema de saúde mais equânime e universal.

The growth of scientific research in recent times has needed the development and application of various indicators to help measure the importance of research for the scientific community. In the training of general practitioners and medical's resident, there is often a lack or deficit in handling issues concerning the production, management and publication of scientific information, these issues leads to loss of ideas an projects, which are in many libraries and research labs of universities, waiting to become part of the intellectual development in training or to contribute knowledge beyond the scientific and medical community worldwide. One of the main issues of vital importance to anyone interested in the scientific output, research result in medical journals indexed on databases, which determine the quality of work, is their access as a source of truthful information or as a means ofpublication; this is of great importance to Bibliometrics. It is tangible and objective to makes the quality and quantity of scientific production to necessary use bibliometrics as a tool to achieve a measurable outcome of the scientific literature. Bibliometrics: concepts and utility to study and medical training

Introduction Different factors are critical when assessing COVID-19 mortality, and can explain why severity differs so widely among populations. However, there is little information regarding prognostic factors and mortality in COVID-19 from Latin American countries. Objectives To determine prognostic factors in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and to evaluate the impact of tocilizumab use in patients with hyperinflammatory syndrome and severe disease defined by the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) with a value greater than or equal to seven points. Materials and methods This retrospective cohort study included hospitalized COVID-19 patients from May to July 2020. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine independent factors associated with mortality. Results A total of 136 patients required hospital admission. In-hospital mortality was 39.7%. Mortality was observed to be potentiated by older age, LDH serum levels and the presence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Lymphopenia and lower PaO2/FiO2 ratio were more common in these patients. Similarly, patients who died were classified more frequently with severe disease. The independent factors associated with in-hospital mortality were age greater than 65 years, type 2 diabetes mellitus, NEWS2 greater than or equal to seven points and LDH greater than 400U/L. The use of Tocilizumab alone was not related with decreased in-hospital mortality. Subgroup analysis performed in patients with hyperinflammation and severe disease showed similar results. Conclusions COVID-19 mortality in hospitalized patients was high and mainly related with older age, comorbidities, LDH and the severity of disease at hospital admission.
