Transmission techniques for digital terrestrial TV broadcasting
TL;DR: The authors discuss the potential of OFDM signaling, with its limitations and inherent problems, as well as another potential technique that has so far been overlooked: single-carrier transmission with frequency- domain equalization, and introduces coded-OFDM (COFDM), which makes use of channel coding and frequency-domain interleaving.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
An analysis of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing for mobile radio applications
TL;DR: Using static and time-varying channel impulse responses, the authors analyze the performance of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing on multipath fading channels and show that, provided it employs a frequency domain equalizer, single-carrier transmission substantially outperforms OFDM signalling.
Journal ArticleDOI
A reduced-complexity frequency detector derived from the maximum-likelihood principle
TL;DR: In this article, a reduced-complexity frequency detector (RCFD) derived from Gardner's detector through a simple approximation to the frequency-matched filter is presented, and its steady-state jitter properties and frequency acquisition performance is compared to the original GFD as well as to the balanced quadricorrelator.
