Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the extraction chromatography of metallic and nonmetallic ions. Extraction chromatography is of importance among the various methods used for the separation of chemical elements. The chapter reviews the separation of various chemical elements with atomic numbers differing by unity—a situation which is most interesting for radiochemists. The separations of elements belonging to a given vertical column of the Periodic Table, that is, of elements exhibiting similarities in their chemical properties, is further reviewed in the chapter. The separations of aluminum group metals are also examined. The chapter presents the VIII B subgroup elements and describes the separation of the two different oxidation states of iron, Fe(II) and Fe(III).
