Journal ArticleDOI
Suppression of basal autophagy in neural cells causes neurodegenerative disease in mice
Taichi Hara,Kenji Nakamura,Makoto Matsui,Makoto Matsui,Makoto Matsui,Akitsugu Yamamoto,Yohko Nakahara,Rika Suzuki-Migishima,Minesuke Yokoyama,Kenji Mishima,Ichiro Saito,Hideyuki Okano,Noboru Mizushima +12 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the continuous clearance of diffuse cytosolic proteins through basal autophagy is important for preventing the accumulation of abnormal proteins, which can disrupt neural function and ultimately lead to neurodegeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of α-Fodrin as a Candidate Autoantigen in Primary Sjögren's Syndrome
Norio Haneji,Takanori Nakamura,Koji Takio,Kumiko Yanagi,Hiroyuki Higashiyama,Ichiro Saito,Sumihare Noji,Hiromu Sugino,Yoshio Hayashi +8 more
TL;DR: The immune response to 120-kilodalton alpha-fodrin could be important in the initial development of primary SS, and sera from patients with SS reacted positively with purified antigen and recombinant human alpha- fodrin protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Zinc Transporter SLC39A13/ZIP13 Is Required for Connective Tissue Development; Its Involvement in BMP/TGF-β Signaling Pathways
Toshiyuki Fukada,Natacha Civic,Tatsuya Furuichi,Shinji Shimoda,Kenji Mishima,Hiroyuki Higashiyama,Yayoi Idaira,Yoshinobu Asada,Hiroshi Kitamura,Satoru Yamasaki,Shintaro Hojyo,Manabu Nakayama,Osamu Ohara,Haruhiko Koseki,Heloisa G. dos Santos,Luisa Bonafé,Russia Ha-Vinh,Andreas Zankl,Sheila Unger,Sheila Unger,Marius E. Kraenzlin,Jacques S. Beckmann,Jacques S. Beckmann,Ichiro Saito,Carlo Rivolta,Shiro Ikegawa,Andrea Superti-Furga,Andrea Superti-Furga,Toshio Hirano +28 more
TL;DR: The results reveal a crucial role of SLC39A13/ZIP13 in connective tissue development at least in part due to its involvement in the BMP/TGF-β signaling pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cathepsin S inhibitor prevents autoantigen presentation and autoimmunity
Kaoru Saegusa,Naozumi Ishimaru,Kumiko Yanagi,Rieko Arakaki,Kouichi Ogawa,Ichiro Saito,Nobuhiko Katunuma,Yoshio Hayashi +7 more
TL;DR: Induction of cathepsin S in vivo alters autoantigen presentation and development of organ-specific autoimmunity and is identified as a potential therapeutic strategy for autoimmune disease processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis induces the Epstein-Barr virus lytic switch transactivator ZEBRA by histone modification.
Kenichi Imai,Harumi Inoue,Harumi Inoue,Muneaki Tamura,Marni E. Cueno,Hiroko Inoue,Osamu Takeichi,Kaoru Kusama,Ichiro Saito,Kuniyasu Ochiai +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that periodontal disease is a risk factor for EBV reactivation in infected individuals and might therefore contribute to progression of EBV-related diseases.
