TL;DR: The role of SOA for services re-used is explained and the methodologies, metrics and models that are able to measure the business value of service re-use are focused on.
Abstract: The main advantage of service re-use for the companies includes retaining a competitive advantage. The expectation of greater service re-use is one of the core benefits of a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Besides the top drivers for SOA adoption include business flexibility, simplification and speed of integration. So, in order to maximise the intended benefits of SOA implementation, organisations need to develop a well-articulated SOA quality strategy to promote trust and re-use. However, the shift to this strategy does not come easy and cheap. Building an effective SOA platform requires tight integration between new and existing product categories, and it may require large investments. The same applies for developing re-usable services. For this reason, conventional investment valuation methods need to be combined with other modern techniques to reflect service re-use’s long-term strategic investment nature, the inherent uncertainty and the managerial discretion. Many value-based analytical methodologies have started to be developed. Thus, in this paper, we explain the role of SOA for services re-use and focus on the methodologies, metrics and models that are able to measure the business value of service re-use.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on the banking service sector in Austria and present three aspects of our contemporary society: the importance of the tertiary sector of the economy, the development of new (mobile) technologies, and the high penetration rate and acceptance of "the device" of the contemporary history.
Abstract: The service sector is closely related with the technology developments and consequently the access to services, their provision, and consumption are optimized. The banking industry is no exception to it. It is strongly influenced by technology developments and tries to meet new challenges and thus to develop further itself. Particularly affected and being put under increasing pressure are the core banking businesses—accounts and payments. Their central element is the money that has experienced a change in its form of existence over time. Money (same as many other goods and services) were being digitized and its value were being transferred to plastic card and lately mobile phones (PPP (paper—plastic—phone) evolution of money). Along with the technological developments comes both the socio-demographic shifts and changes in the legal environment. On the other hand, opportunities for new participants (other than banks) on the (cashless) payment market are opening up and with it the position of the banks on the payment market is threatened. Due to the fact that banks are very much impacted by the developments in technology and they count among the heaviest investors in information technology, this paper will attempt to provide valuable insight into how the banks implement or could implement the new (mobile) technologies and the smartphone. Further, this paper comprises three aspects of our contemporary society: the importance of the tertiary sector of the economy—services in the developed countries, the development of new (mobile) technologies, and the high penetration rate and acceptance of “the device” of the contemporary history—the smartphone. The aim of this work is to translate these three aspects into the banking service sector in Austria (with a focus on the payments).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focused on aspects of long-term innovativeness of multinational IT companies and conducted a survey about factors of corporate culture in IBM as one of the representatives of innovative multinational IT organizations.
Abstract: This paper is focused on aspects of long-term innovativeness of multinational IT companies. Annually, there are several lists of the most innovative IT companies published, and many of IT companies are appearing in the first places for several years in a row. Our research is focused on those factors that enable these companies to maintain their innovativeness for several years. In order to identify the factors, we have compared investments into R&D of the four most innovative multinational IT companies and we conducted a survey about factors of corporate culture in IBM as one of the representatives of innovative multinational IT companies. Additionally, we reviewed business models of these companies in order to find out similarities and attitudes, which might have a positive influence on a long-term generation of innovations. The interview in the Innovation Centre of IBM allowed us to gain deeper insight into its processes. Thanks to our research we were able to identify specific factors of long-term innovativeness of multinational companies, which may be a source for further investigation as innovation management offers a wide range of perspectives since the field is continuously developing.

TL;DR: This paper develops a method that allows considering the architecture of any kind of networked systems, which could be described by the formalized graphs and its adjacency matrix, and encompasses a categorization and utilization of the networked system topological properties.
Abstract: Contemporary corporations are global, associative e-business infrastructures involving employee, supplier, partner and customer networks. These dynamic, distributed organizations must have a flexible structure designed to move quickly in the face of global competitive pressures. Highly structured, vertically integrated, hierarchical organizations cannot respond to increasingly shorter periods of opportunity. Thus, we develop in this paper a method that allows considering the architecture of any kind of networked systems, which could be described by the formalized graphs and its adjacency matrix. This approach encompasses a categorization and utilization of the networked system topological properties. Namely, it involves an a-priory approximate determination of the basic network design performance features, e.g., information transfer capacity and the reliability assessment including configuration changes in running systems.

TL;DR: This paper aims to provide analysis of various ICT tools, to disclose their potential to contribute to team’s quality communication and to reduce drawbacks caused by impersonal environment.
Abstract: Nowadays, the current state of development of information and communication technology (ICT) connects individuals across time and space in one common environment, that is accessible for anyone, the virtual world. To collaborate with somebody or to participate in a team activity does not require a physical presence anymore. Virtual settings allow real-time communication and cooperation across any distance at any time with negligible delay. ICT allows formation of virtual teams where those accomplish various functions in work, education and private life. Compared to local teams of physically present individuals, the collaboration in virtual environments is more intensively influenced by significantly impacting factors and requires intensive motivation of the team members, extensive support by their team leader and appropriate technology. Among all the available ICT tools, not each ICT tool is equally suitable for each and every team activity. This paper aims to provide analysis of various ICT tools, to disclose their potential to contribute to team’s quality communication and to reduce drawbacks caused by impersonal environment. Our aim is to optimize the composition of the ICT supporting infrastructure in order to form successful and effective collaboration.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore how industrial companies use B2B e-commerce, how it enables their services and what are the main advantages of using it, and provide guidance for managers and give them an outlook on how ecommerce can be used by their companies.
Abstract: E-commerce has become an increasingly important source of competitive advantages for business-to-business (B2B) companies. It enables companies not only to decrease transactional costs and offer wide range of additional services, but also to enhance efficiency in collaboration with their customers and suppliers. Thus, the objective of this paper is to explore how industrial companies use B2B e-commerce, how it enables their services and what are the main advantages. In the context of the economy globalisation, continuous increase of the services role in B2B markets and rapid development of information technologies, this article is considered to be of high practical and theoretical importance for business environment. As it represents a review and summarises a broad theoretical background on the topic, it could be chosen as a basis for further research on different strategies in B2B markets and analysis of the role of e-commerce. The paper also provides guidance for managers and gives them an outlook on how e-commerce can be used by their companies. Hence, it may support managers in decision making on e-commerce investments, during definition, implementation and execution of e-commerce strategy.

TL;DR: This work develops a conceptual model for performance analysis of software services availability vs. interoperability on the IoT-enabled inter-enterprise SDPs to facilitate enterprises to attach their customers more tightly by an effective service delivery, which in turn optimizes business processes at different steps.
Abstract: Modern business background can be seen as a logical effect of eBusiness, advanced integrated networks, Internet of Things (IoT), and software services. In such an environment, the IoT-centered application deployment and delivery models have revolutionized the way businesses interact, collaborate and transact with customers, suppliers, partners, employees and shareholders. Hence, with wide deployment of the distributed inter-enterprise Service Delivery Platforms (SDPs) over the Internet, there is an urgent need to understand and solve service traffic issues of the fast evolving architectures. Accordingly, the purpose of our work is to develop a conceptual model for performance analysis of software services availability vs. interoperability in order to facilitate enterprises to attach their customers more tightly by an effective service delivery, which in turn optimizes business processes at different steps. Thus, we introduce and deliberate in this chapter a hypothetical model for the performance analysis of services availability and interoperability on the IoT-enabled inter-enterprise SDPs. We also figure and analyze imperative performance features of the model. The related open issues and future work are briefed correspondingly.

TL;DR: A systematic literature review (SLR) of mobile payments is presented and the state-of-the-art research conducted in this area is characterized, covering articles published during the past two decades, from 2000 to 2020.
Abstract: Mobile payments makeup one of the fastest-growing mobile services available today and are widely used by smartphones for utility payments, bill payments, and online shopping, among other applications. Mobile payments are playing a vital role in the fast growth of online markets and are revolutionizing the supply chain of businesses and industries. Mobile payments are becoming dominant compared to conventional off-line mode payment channels and online e-channels such as ATM, e-cheque, and e-card payments. The success of e-business depends on several factors, including the type of mobile payment channel used, the associated security infrastructure, the stakeholders involved, and the m-business models adopted. In this paper, we present a systematic literature review (SLR) of mobile payments and characterize the state-of-the-art research conducted in this area, covering articles published during the past two decades, from 2000 to 2020. Following the SLR process, we examined over 350 research papers with a comprehensive and detailed inspection of the mobile payment domain’s literature. Based on the analysis, we present the trends, patterns, new technologies, innovations, gaps in the existing literature, and critical challenges. The recommendations given will help identify the primary areas requiring advancement in future research on mobile payment systems.
