Abstract: This work contemplates the literature revision of Quality Standardization and the evaluation process by means of Hospital Accreditation literature. A historic resume have been worked out, about the beginnings of quality evaluation within the health services, from the Hospital Standardization Program, elaborated by the American Surgeons College, in the middle of 1924, to the creation of ONA - National Accreditation Organization, who has as main goals the installation and implementation of a health assistance permanent improvement process, thus stimulating the services to reach higher quality standards. After a reflection exercise, it was considered that, in the evaluation of services, it's necessary to seek a higher value of the assistentials results, as well as the elaboration of more equanimous patterns in the structure, processes and results of the assistential quality.

Abstract: Tratou-se de pesquisa exploratorio-descritiva, realizada de outubro a dezembro de 2002, com 216 adolescentes gravidas assistidas pela Estrategia de Saude da Familia dos municipios pertencentes a Microrregiao de Saude de Acarau, Ceara. Objetivou caracterizar o perfil socio-demografico e gineco-obstetrico destas, identificando o motivo que as levou a engravidar, e saber como percebiam sua gravidez. A maior parte destas tinha 17 anos, eram pardas, alfabetizadas, donas-de-casa, tinham companheiro fixo e viviam com menos de um salario minimo. Destas, 32,4% menstruou aos 12 anos, 25% teve a primeira relacao sexual aos 16 anos e, 72,7% estava na primeira gestacao. Destaca-se o desejo de ser mae como principal motivo para engravidar, e a percepcao em relacao a gravidez esta relacionada com felicidade e realizacao pessoal.

Abstract: This descriptive study identified the profile and competencies of nurse managers of accredited hospitals from the their perspective and that of their hierarchical superiors. It was conducted in 14 hospitals certified by the National Organization of Accreditation and the Joint Commission International in Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil. Data were collected through two questionnaires that were applied to 24 professionals. The nurse managers' profiles showed that 69.2% came from private colleges, all with more than 10 years experience since graduation and 92.3% had attended a post-degree program in health management. The nurse managers' most frequent competencies according to their superiors were: leadership, focus on patients, and teamwork. The conclusion is that the profile and competencies of most of the nurse managers were compatible with the expectations of their superiors, who collaborate in the selection of candidates for the nurse manager position and evaluate their professional performance.

Destaca a importância do desenvolvimento de competencias gerenciais nos enfermeiros desde a formacao na graduacao e de forma continua nos servicos.

Abstract: This article presents a selective and non-systematic literature review about the phenomenon of adolescent pregnancy. The text is organized along three themes: (a) risks and problems associated with adolescent pregnancy, (b) precursor factors related to pregnancy in adolescence, and (c) socio-cultural factors associated with the desire to become a mother in adolescence. Conclusions point out to the fact that adolescent pregnancy is an experience that can have both negative and positive consequences for adolescents. Additionally, the phenomenon highlights the need of interventions focused on adolescents' sexual and reproductive health.

Abstract: Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the functional capacity of elderly individuals and its determinants. Methods: A cross- sectional, population-based study was conducted with a sample of 397 elderly residents in the urban area of the city of Uba, Minas Gerais. A semi-structured, pre-tested questionnaire was applied as an interview in order to assess the sociodemographic, economic and health characteristics of elderly individuals. The functional capacity was assessed by means of the scale of basic and instrumental activities of daily living. The associations between functional capacity and socioeconomic, demographic and epidemiological characteristics were investigated. Data were analyzed with the softwares Epi Info version 6.0 and SigmaStat. A significance level of 0.05 was considered. For statistical analysis, frequency distribution and measures of association (odds ratio) were performed between the functional capacity and the socioeconomic, demographic and epidemiological variables. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted. Results: The impaired functional capacity was related to self-referred deteriorated health conditions, falls, female gender, widowhood, more advanced age, low educational level and income, and retirement from the job market. Conclusion: The lack of integral health care for the elderly, especially those without financial resources, can contribute negatively to worsened health conditions, especially functional capacity.

Abstract: Estudo metodologico, realizado no periodo de abril a dezembro de 2010, que teve como objetivo descrever os criterios de construcao, validacao de conteudo e aparencia de um instrumento de Acolhimento com Classificacao de Risco (ACCR). Foram utilizadas as estrategias de Validacao de Conteudo por meio da tecnica Delphi e de Validacao de Aparencia. A apreciacao do instrumento foi realizada por um grupo de juizes, constituidos por dez enfermeiros, docentes com titulacao de especialistas, mestres e/ou doutores, com vivencia no ACCR. Conclui-se que o instrumento possui validade de conteudo e de aparencia para avaliar o ACCR, tendo em vista que os indices de fidedignidade e concordância nas tres dimensoes donabedianas de avaliacao em saude alcancaram valores acima do padrao estabelecido, ou seja, 80%.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to learn the perception that nurses have about the protocol of their attributions in prenatal care, identifying the health actions they develop, as well as the easy and difficult aspects in using the referred protocol. This qualitative study was developed with Family Health Strategy nurses in Divinopolis, Minas Gerais. The data survey was performed through interviews with five nurses. The data was submitted to thematic content analysis. Results showed the need for investments in professional qualification for women's health care in the pregnancy-postpartum cycle, as well as to create and implement protocols that promote a better interaction between the medical and nursing work.
