Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized Comparison of a Sirolimus-Eluting Stent with a Standard Stent for Coronary Revascularization
Marie-Claude Morice,Patrick W. Serruys,J. Eduardo Sousa,Jean Fajadet,Ernesto Ban Hayashi,Marco Antonio Perin,Antonio Colombo,Gerhard Schuler,Paul Barragan,Giulio Guagliumi,Ferenc Molnar,Robert Falotico +11 more
TL;DR: As compared with a standard coronary stent, a sirolimus-eluting stent shows considerable promise for the prevention of neointimal proliferation, restenosis, and associated clinical events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strategies for Multivessel Revascularization in Patients with Diabetes
Michael E. Farkouh,Michael J. Domanski,Lynn A. Sleeper,Flora S. Siami,George Dangas,Michael J. Mack,David J. Cohen,Yves Rosenberg,Scott D. Solomon,Akshay S. Desai,Bernard J. Gersh,Elizabeth A. Magnuson,Alexandra J. Lansky,Robin Boineau,Jesse Weinberger,Krishnan Ramanathan,J. Eduardo Sousa,Jamie Rankin,Balram Bhargava,John B. Buse,Whady Hueb,Craig R. Smith,Victoria Muratov,Sameer Bansilal,Spencer B. King,Michel E. Bertrand,Valentin Fuster +26 more
TL;DR: For patients with diabetes and advanced coronary artery disease, CABG was superior to PCI in that it significantly reduced rates of death and myocardial infarction, with a higher rate of stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Coronary-Artery Bypass Surgery and Stenting for the Treatment of Multivessel Disease
Patrick W. Serruys,Felix Unger,J. Eduardo Sousa,Adib D Jatene,Hans Bonnier,Jacques P.A.M. Schönberger,Nigel Buller,Robert Bonser,Marcel van den Brand,Lex A. van Herwerden,Marie-Angèle Morel,Ben A. van Hout +11 more
TL;DR: As measured one year after the procedure, coronary stenting for multivessel disease is less expensive than bypass surgery and offers the same degree of protection against death, stroke, and myocardial infarction, however, stenting is associated with a greater need for repeated revascularization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lack of Neointimal Proliferation After Implantation of Sirolimus-Coated Stents in Human Coronary Arteries: A Quantitative Coronary Angiography and Three-Dimensional Intravascular Ultrasound Study
J. Eduardo Sousa,Marco A. Costa,Alexandre Abizaid,Andrea Abizaid,Fausto Feres,Ibraim Francisco Pinto,Ana C. Seixas,Rodolfo Staico,Luiz Alberto Mattos,Amanda G. M. R. Sousa,Robert Falotico,Judith Jaeger,Jeffrey J. Popma,Patrick W. Serruys +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the safety and efficacy of sirolimus-coated BX Velocity stents were evaluated in 30 patients with angina pectoris electively treated with two different formulations of SIROlimuscoated stents (slow release and fast release).
Journal ArticleDOI
Sustained Suppression of Neointimal Proliferation by Sirolimus-Eluting Stents One-Year Angiographic and Intravascular Ultrasound Follow-Up
J. Eduardo Sousa,Marco A. Costa,Alexandre Abizaid,Benno J. Rensing,Andrea Abizaid,Luiz Fernando Tanajura,Ken Kozuma,Glenn Van Langenhove,Amanda G. M. R. Sousa,Robert Falotico,Judith Jaeger,Jeffrey J. Popma,Patrick W. Serruys +12 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates a sustained suppression of neointimal proliferation by sirolimus-eluting Bx VELOCITY stents 1 year after implantation.
