Advances in the modeling of laminated plates

TL;DR: The 4MREDNC-R element appears to be ideally suited to use as a flat, four-noded shell element for applications in which the bending and membrane couplings are not significant as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Delamination on Active Constrained Layer Damping of Smart Laminated Composite Beams

TL;DR: In this paper, a finite element model has been derived to formulate the dynamics of the composite beams integrated with a patch of ACLD treatment and a piece of piezoelectric film acting as a distributed sensor with and without the presence of delamination.
Journal ArticleDOI

Displacement control of Timoshenko beams via induced strain actuators

TL;DR: In this paper, analytical solutions for the length and position of strain-induced patch actuators for the static adjustments of beam deflections are presented, by making use of exact relationships between the bending solutions of the Timoshenko beam theory and corresponding quantities of the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Standard and boundary layer perturbation approaches to predict nonlinear axisymmetric behavior of cylindrical shells

TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility and performance of standard and boundary layer perturbation techniques in nonlinear analyses of cylindrical shells are investigated. And the uncoupled governing equations of shell theory with first-order approximation and the von Karman nonlinearity are decoupled.
