Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) shows an important role in the sustainable agriculture industry. The increasing demand for crop production with a significant reduction of synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides use is a big challenge nowadays. The use of PGPR has been proven to be an environmentally sound way of increasing crop yields by facilitating plant growth through either a direct or indirect mechanism. The mechanisms of PGPR include regulating hormonal and nutritional balance, inducing resistance against plant pathogens, and solubilizing nutrients for easy uptake by plants. In addition, PGPR show synergistic and antagonistic interactions with microorganisms within the rhizosphere and beyond in bulk soil, which indirectly boosts plant growth rate. There are many bacteria species that act as PGPR, described in the literature as successful for improving plant growth. However, there is a gap between the mode of action (mechanism) of the PGPR for plant growth and the role of the PGPR as biofertilizer—thus the importance of nano-encapsulation technology in improving the efficacy of PGPR. Hence, this review bridges the gap mentioned and summarizes the mechanism of PGPR as a biofertilizer for agricultural sustainability.

Role of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria in Agricultural Sustainability-A Review.

Our current understanding of spatial behaviour and parietal lobe function is largely based on the belief that spatial neglect in humans (a lack of awareness of space on the side of the body contralateral to a brain injury) is typically associated with lesions of the posterior parietal lobe. However, in monkeys, this disorder is observed after lesions of the superior temporal cortex1, a puzzling discrepancy between the species. Here we show that, contrary to the widely accepted view, the superior temporal cortex is the neural substrate of spatial neglect in humans, as it is in monkeys. Unlike the monkey brain, spatial awareness in humans is a function largely confined to the right superior temporal cortex, a location topographically reminiscent of that for language on the left2. Hence, the decisive phylogenetic transition from monkey to human brain seems to be a restriction of a formerly bilateral function to the right side, rather than a shift from the temporal to the parietal lobe. One may speculate that this lateralization of spatial awareness parallels the emergence of an elaborate representation for language on the left side.

that are expressed before the onset of nitrogen fixation and are involved in infection and nodule development. The products of the late nodulin genes are involved in the interaction with the endosymbiont and in the metabolic specialization of the nodule (Nap and Bisseling, 1990). In the first part of this review, we describe the early steps of the interaction between rhizobia and legumes that result in the formation of a nitrogen-fixing nodule. We focus on the role of specific lipooligosaccharides secreted by rhizobia in the induction of these early steps. In the second part, we describe nodule functioning and compare actinorhizal and legume nodules.

Interactions between Aboveground and Belowground Biodiversity in Terrestrial Ecosystems: Patterns, Mechanisms, and Feedbacks

SUMMARY
Rhizobia are the bacteria that form nitrogen-fixing nodules on legumes. The current list of four rhizobium genera and 17 species is reviewed, with some comments on likely future developments in the taxonomy. Sequences of the small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU or 16S rRNA) support the well-established subdivision of rhizobia into three genera: Rhizobium, Bradyrhizobium and Azorhizobium. These all lie within the alpha subdivision of the Proteabacteria, but on quite distinct branches, each of which also includes many bacterial species that are not rhizobia. Rhizobium, by this definition, is still broad and polyphyletic, so there have recently been suggestions that this genus should be split into four genera. SSU sequences may be the best phylogenetic tool we have, but they are not an infallible guide to evolutionary relationships, particularly among closely related species: slow evolution, recombination, intraspecinc variation and even intragenomic heterogeneity are all limitations that can be illustrated by examples from the rhizobia. It seems likely that the ability to form legume nodules was not present in the common ancestor of all rhizobia but that the nodulation genes were transferred between phylogenetically distinct bacteria, so that the phylogeny of nodulation genes will probably differ from that of the bacteria that carry them. Nitrogen fixation genes are often linked to nodulation genes, but they need not have the same evolutionary history.
