Abstract: L'objet de cet article est d'examiner a la lumiere de travaux recents quelquos problemes methodologiques poses par la definition de criteres de securite et leur incidence sur les etudes orgonomiquos. On rappelle d'abord brievement comment sont categorises les accidents ot selon quelles methodes ils peuvent etre oxploites. Les insuffisances du critere “ accident ” eonduiaent a definir d'autres criteres de securite revelateura des memes dysfonctionnements du systeme que les accidents. On discuto ta nature et la validite des criteres relevant de quelques grandes categories: incidents et presqu’accidents (conflits de trafic), infractions aux regies, caracteristiques du fonctionnement du systeme et de ses elements. Quelques unes des possibilites offertes par les criteres intermediaires pour l' etude des mecanismes generateurs d'accidents sont presentees. En conclusion, est souligne, l'interet des criteres intermediaires pour I'orientation et le controle des mesures de prevention.
