TL;DR: This exploratory work sheds light on important functional information characteristics of the system of research collaboration by examining large-scale topological structures of co-authorship networks, created through the affiliative ties of scholarly articles published by collaborating researchers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Abstract: This exploratory work sheds light on important functional information characteristics of the system of research collaboration by examining large-scale topological structures of co-authorship networks, created through the affiliative ties of scholarly articles published by collaborating researchers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. The model adopted in this work to understand the underlying collaboration system incorporates the strengths of collaborative coupling among the researchers. The questions we examine in this work are as follows: (1) What new functional characteristics emerge when combined structural effects of collaborative coupling and large-scale connectivity exist in the networks? (2) What information does a specific closeness distribution of collaborating researchers convey with regard to the flow of knowledge through collaborative activities? (3) What is the temporal dynamics of large-scale structure formation in these networks? The work involves a comparative study of these characteristics using the networks of two countries: India and the US. Our results have important implications for scientometric studies of collaboration research.

Abstract: In recent years, the information systems research community has been experiencing an exciting time discovering and coming to grips with many unexplored or untapped opportunities for research that lie at the intersection of the disciplines of information systems and technology, big data, analytics, and data science. In this article, some of the critical aspects of the big data problem are discussed, and their importance as well as relevance to information systems research is shown. Also proposed are a number of research problems in this area that interested information systems scholars can address to delve more deeply into the field as well as to generate further active interest of the subject within the information systems community.

TL;DR: This study examines the structure and dynamics of a software project in information technology industrial research and development that has this methodology as its foundation and derives a number of results that characterize the long-term, stable behavior of the project.
Abstract: In recent years concurrent, overlapping development activities of engineering tasks have proved to be a cost-effective and time-efficient way to build products geared toward meeting the demands of a competitive and quality-conscious market. In this study, we examine the structure and dynamics of a software project in information technology industrial research and development that has this methodology as its foundation. We first describe a number of software engineering aspects of the project that elucidate how various development activities in its concurrently unfolding component projects are overlapped and integrated to gradually build the product over time. Using the mathematical tools of dynamic systems analysis, we next derive a number of results that characterize the long-term, stable behavior of the project. These results are then used in a numerical simulation to illustrate a procedure by which relevant resources can be distributed across the components in a way that maintains continued stability of the project over time. Our modeling approach is flexible enough to allow the theoretical results and the simulation techniques to be easily generalized to study, in real time, the stability, maintenance, and management of similar concurrent projects. The usefulness of the method lies in motivating and refining managerial decisions that drive overlapping development activities of such projects.

TL;DR: This exploratory study analyzes co-authorship networks of collaborative cancer research in India from bibliometric data on published scholarly articles indexed in two well-known electronic databases to examine policy structure of related disciplines in other countries of the world.
Abstract: In this exploratory study, we analyze co-authorship networks of collaborative cancer research in India. The complete network is constructed from bibliometric data on published scholarly articles indexed in two well-known electronic databases covering two 6-year windows from 2000 to 2005 and 2006 to 2011 inclusive. Employing a number of important metrics pertaining to the underlying topological structures of the network, we discusses implications for effective policies to enhance knowledge generation and sharing in cancer research in the country. With some modifications, our methods can be applied without difficulty to examine policy structure of related disciplines in other countries of the world.
