Mortality in employees at a New Zealand agrochemical manufacturing site.
David McBride,Carol J. Burns,G. Peter Herbison,Noel F. Humphry,Kenneth M. Bodner,James J. Collins +5 more
TL;DR: The mortality experience of workers at the Dow AgroSciences agrochemical production site in New Plymouth, New Zealand was similar to the rest of New Zealand and analyses by latency and period of hire did not show any patterns consistent with an adverse impact of occupational exposures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined administration of testosterone plus an ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor as a selective prostate-sparing anabolic therapy
Ravi Jasuja,James C. Costello,Rajan Singh,Vandana Gupta,Catherine S. Spina,Catherine S. Spina,Gianluca Toraldo,Hyeran Jang,Hu Li,Carlo Serra,Wen Guo,Pratibha Chauhan,Navjot S. Narula,Tyler Guarneri,Ayla Ergun,Thomas G. Travison,James J. Collins,James J. Collins,Shalender Bhasin +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown here that the administration of recombinant follistatin (rFst) increased muscle mass in mice, but had no effect on prostate mass, and co‐administration of testosterone and Odc1 inhibitor presents a novel therapeutic strategy for prostate‐sparing anabolic therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
A risk assessment for occupational acrylonitrile exposure using epidemiology data.
Thomas B. Starr,Christine K. Gause,Ada O. Youk,Roslyn A. Stone,Gary M. Marsh,James J. Collins +5 more
TL;DR: Age‐specific estimates of the additional risk of lung cancer mortality associated with several plausible occupational exposure scenarios are obtained and are markedly lower than those generated with the cancer potency estimate provided in the USEPA acrylonitrile risk assessment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dilemmas of race, register, and inequality in South Africa
TL;DR: This paper used the concepts of language register, sociolinguistic scale, and racialization to analyze how education policy, classroom practices, and school discourses about language in South Africa implicate class and racial hierarchies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene regulation: hacking the network on a sugar high.
TL;DR: In a recent issue of Molecular Cell, Kaplan et al. determine the input functions for 19 E. coli sugar-utilization genes by using a two-dimensional high-throughput approach, revealing that gene network regulation follows non-Boolean, and often nonmonotonic, logic.
