Abstract: Dielectric polarization method has been used for studies of dipole-dipole self-association of n-pentylcyanobiphenyl (5-CB) and 4-(trans-4′-n-hexylcyclohexyl)isothiocyanatobenzene (6-CHBT) in non-polar solvents. A new approach to the dimer structure has been proposed.

Abstract: Results are reported for measurements of Δ∊/E 2 for 6-DBT and 7-DBT (5-trans-n-alkyl-2(4′-isothiocyanianophenylo)-1,3-dioxane, n = 6, 7) in the isotropic phase, in the vicinity of T SA1, and for 6-DBT solutions in dioxane over a broad range of temperatures In the immediate vicinity of T SA1 divcrgence from the Landau-de Gennes model was observed From measurements made in solutions of 6-DBT in dioxane it was concluded that the antiparallel orientation of dipoles is preferred

Abstract: 1-(5-(4-alkyl- or phenyl)pyrimidyl-2)-2-(4-alkyl or alkoxyphenyl)ethanes were synthesized and their binary mixtures with 4-alkoxyphenyl 4-alkoxybenzoates were investigated by microscopic, calorimetric, X-ray and dielectric methods. A new kind of smectic A phase has been observed above the smectic C phase which has given an unusually high didifraction peak.
