Journal ArticleDOI
Thermonociception in fish: Effects of two different doses of morphine on thermal threshold and post-test behaviour in goldfish (Carassius auratus)
Janicke Nordgreen,Joseph P. Garner,Andrew M. Janczak,Birgit Ranheim,William M. Muir,Tor Einar Horsberg +5 more
TL;DR: An apparatus was developed to expose goldfish to controlled, localised heat stimulation and the hypothesis that goldfish perceive heat as aversive was tested, and all 16 fish responded to the heat with an escape response, with a mean baseline of 38 8C.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trace classical conditioning as an approach to the study of reward-related behaviour in laying hens: A methodological study
Randi Oppermann Moe,Janicke Nordgreen,Andrew M. Janczak,Berry M. Spruijt,Adroaldo J. Zanella,Morten Bakken +5 more
TL;DR: Trace classical conditioning can be used for inducing anticipatory behaviour in ad libitum fed laying hens freely moving in the home pen environment based on trace conditioning and demonstrates that the results demonstrated that the EX hens responded to the CS with an increased level of anticipating behaviour compared to the CO hens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early Life in a Barren Environment Adversely Affects Spatial Cognition in Laying Hens (Gallus gallus domesticus).
TL;DR: The hypothesis that rearing in a barren cage environment relative to a complex aviary environment causes long-lasting deficits in the ability to perform spatial tasks is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exposure to Increased Environmental Complexity during Rearing Reduces Fearfulness and Increases Use of Three-Dimensional Space in Laying Hens (Gallus gallus domesticus).
Margrethe Brantsæter,Janicke Nordgreen,T. Bas Rodenburg,Fernanda M. Tahamtani,Anastasija Popova,Andrew M. Janczak +5 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that laying hens reared in a complex aviary system with exposure to mild intermittent stressors would be less fearful, less sensitive to stress, and would use elevated areas of the pen more often as adults than hens raised in a barren cage environment is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on inflammatory markers in blood and brain and on behavior in individually-housed pigs.
Janicke Nordgreen,Camilla Munsterhjelm,Frida Aae,Anastasija Popova,Preben Boysen,Birgit Ranheim,Mari Heinonen,Joanna Raszplewicz,Petteri Piepponen,Andreas Lervik,Anna Valros,Andrew M. Janczak +11 more
TL;DR: A low dose of LPS can induce changes in brain cytokine levels and neurotransmitter levels that persist after inflammatory and stress markers in the periphery have returned to baseline levels.
