TL;DR: In this article, Briquet et al. discuss the effect of the public's attentes on the conditions effectives d'exercice du metier politique plutot qu'aux logiques sociales de la professionnalisation politique, which assure aux elus une marge de jeu par rapport a ces prescriptions de roles.
Abstract: Communiquer en acte.

TL;DR: This paper examined how governments respond to adverse shocks and how voters react to these responses, and found that voters punish the incumbent party for weather events beyond its control, but reward the government for responding to disasters.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors suggest that an extended family of Mediterranean welfare states exists and that it consists of eight different nations, some of which have been ignored in the ongoing discourse on Mediterranean welfare States.
Abstract: The goal of this article is to suggest that an extended family of Mediterranean welfare states exists and that it consists of eight different nations, some of which have been ignored in the ongoing discourse on Mediterranean welfare states. More specifically, it is claimed that the extended family of Mediterranean welfare states includes Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Italy, Malta, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. The article underscores a number of features common to members of this extended family of welfare states. Finally, three overarching themes that, in the past and present, appear to underlie the commonalities of Mediterranean welfare states and that can offer potential fruitful avenues for further study will be identified and discussed. These are religion, family and the role of clientelist—particularist relations in the structuring and functioning of welfare state institutions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the links between land ownership contention, private violence and the state in Colombia and present a context where criminal actors participate in the regular functioning of public institutions.
Abstract: This study explores the links between land ownership contention, private violence and the state. Colombia presents a context where criminal actors participate in the regular functioning of public institutions. The study rejects normative conceptions about the link between criminal actors and the state. Crime and violence are not considered as extraneous factors, separated from the political game; they are analyzed as constitutive of logics of competition, accumulation and economic development, ultimately, elements in the process of state formation.
