Analyzing the mechanisms of fatigue crack initiation and propagation in CRH EMU brake discs

TL;DR: In this paper, a finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to determine temperature and stress distribution in the brake disc as well as to estimate stress distribution during braking, which indicated more significant residual, circumferential tensile stress on the external friction surface after emergency braking.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of braking energy on the fatigue crack propagation in railway brake discs

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of braking energy on fatigue crack evolution was analyzed by using experimental testing and numerical simulations, which showed that the depth of cracks correlates well with the residual tensile stress distribution in brake discs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crack propagation and microstructural transformation on the friction surface of a high-speed railway brake disc

TL;DR: In this paper, a modified microstructure consisting of a white etching layer (WEL) containing nanosized ferrite was observed on the friction surface of worn brake discs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fabrication and characterization of cast magnesium matrix composites by vacuum stir casting process

TL;DR: In this paper, a vacuum stir casting process is developed to produce SiCp reinforced cast magnesium matrix composites, which can eliminate the entrapment of external gas onto melt and oxidation of magnesium during stirring synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low cycle fatigue behavior of Cr–Mo–V low alloy steel used for railway brake discs

TL;DR: In this paper, the cyclic stress-strain response and the low cycle fatigue (LCF) behavior of CrMo-V low alloy steel which was used for forged railway brake discs was studied.
