Abstract: Hollow metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivatives have attracted more and more attention due to their high specific surface area and perfect morphological structure, which determine their large potential application in energy storage and catalysis fields. However, few researchers have carried out further modification on the outer shell of hollow MOFs, such as the perforation modification, which will endow hollow nanomaterials derived from MOFs with multifunctionality. In this paper, hollow MOFs of MIL-53(Fe) with perforated outer surface are successfully synthesized by using SiO2 nanospheres as the template via a self-assembly process induced by the coordination polymerization. The tightly packed mesopore structure makes the carbon outer shell of MOFs thinner, thus realizing the in-situ transformation from MOFs to hollow Fe3O4/carbon, which exhibits perfect capacity approaching 1270 mA h g−1 even after 200 cycles at 0.1 A g−1, as an anode material in lithium ion batteries (LIBs) application. This research provides a new strategy for the design and preparation of MOFs and their derivatives with multifunctionality for the energy applications.

Abstract: Two related searches for phenomena beyond the standard model (BSM) are performed using events with hadronic jets and significant transverse momentum imbalance. The results are based on a sample of proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $13\,\text {Te}\text {V} $, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016–2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137$\,\text {fb}^{-1}$. The first search is inclusive, based on signal regions defined by the hadronic energy in the event, the jet multiplicity, the number of jets identified as originating from bottom quarks, and the value of the kinematic variable $M_{\mathrm {T2}}$ for events with at least two jets. For events with exactly one jet, the transverse momentum of the jet is used instead. The second search looks in addition for disappearing tracks produced by BSM long-lived charged particles that decay within the volume of the tracking detector. No excess event yield is observed above the predicted standard model background. This is used to constrain a range of BSM models that predict the following: the pair production of gluinos and squarks in the context of supersymmetry models conserving R-parity, with or without intermediate long-lived charginos produced in the decay chain, the resonant production of a colored scalar state decaying to a massive Dirac fermion and a quark, or the pair production of scalar and vector leptoquarks each decaying to a neutrino and a top, bottom, or light-flavor quark. In most of the cases, the results obtained are the most stringent constraints to date.

Abstract: The problem of allocating resources for user transmissions on the downlink of a Long Term Evolution (LTE) cellular communication system is studied. A novel optimal multiuser scheduler is proposed and its performance is evaluated. Numerical results show that the system performance improves with increasing correlation among OFDMA sub-carriers. It is found that a limited amount of feedback information can provide a relatively good performance. A sub-optimal scheduler with a lower computational complexity is also proposed, and shown to provide good performance. The sub-optimal scheme is especially attractive when the number of users is large, as the complexity of the optimal scheme may be unacceptably high in many practical situations.

Abstract: Inclusive π±, K± and $$(p,\bar p)$$ differential cross-sections in hadronic decays of the Z have been measured as a function ofz=P hadron/P beam, the scaled momentum. The results are based on approximately 520 000 events measured by the ALEPH detector at LEP during 1992. Charged particles are identified by their rate of ionization energy loss in the ALEPH Time Projection Chamber. The position, ξ*, of the peak in the ln(1/z) distribution is determined, and the evolution of the peak position with centre-of-mass energy is compared with the prediction of QCD.

Abstract: Use of the real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify cDNA products reverse transcribed from mRNA is on the way to becoming a routine tool in molecular biology to study low abundance gene expression. Real-time PCR is easy to perform, provides the necessary accuracy and produces reliable as well as rapid quantification results. But accurate quantification of nucleic acids requires a reproducible methodology and an adequate mathematical model for data analysis. This study enters into the particular topics of the relative quantification in real-time RT–PCR of a target gene transcript in comparison to a reference gene transcript. Therefore, a new mathematical model is presented. The relative expression ratio is calculated only from the real-time PCR efficiencies and the crossing point deviation of an unknown sample versus a control. This model needs no calibration curve. Control levels were included in the model to standardise each reaction run with respect to RNA integrity, sample loading and inter-PCR variations. High accuracy and reproducibility (<2.5% variation) were reached in LightCycler PCR using the established mathematical model.
