Motion recognition is a topic in software engineering and dialect innovation with a goal of interpreting human signals through mathematical algorithm. Hand gesture is a strategy for nonverbal communication for individuals as it expresses more liberally than body parts. Hand gesture acknowledgment has more prominent significance in planning a proficient human computer interaction framework, utilizing signals as a characteristic interface favorable to circumstance of movements. Regardless, the distinguishing proof and acknowledgment of posture, gait, proxemics and human behaviors is furthermore the subject of motion to appreciate human nonverbal communication, thus building a richer bridge between machines and humans than primitive text user interfaces or even graphical user interfaces, which still limits the majority of input to electronics gadget. In this paper, a study on various motion recognition methodologies is given specific accentuation on available motions. A survey on hand posture and gesture is clarified with a detailed comparative analysis of hidden Markov model approach with other classifier techniques. Difficulties and future investigation bearing are also examined.

Hand posture and gesture recognition techniques for virtual reality applications: a survey

Computer-aided assessment of physical rehabilitation entails evaluation of patient performance in completing prescribed rehabilitation exercises, based on processing movement data captured with a sensory system. Despite the essential role of rehabilitation assessment toward improved patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs, existing approaches lack versatility, robustness, and practical relevance. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based framework for automated assessment of the quality of physical rehabilitation exercises. The main components of the framework are metrics for quantifying movement performance, scoring functions for mapping the performance metrics into numerical scores of movement quality, and deep neural network models for generating quality scores of input movements via supervised learning. The proposed performance metric is defined based on the log-likelihood of a Gaussian mixture model, and encodes low-dimensional data representation obtained with a deep autoencoder network. The proposed deep spatio-temporal neural network arranges data into temporal pyramids, and exploits the spatial characteristics of human movements by using sub-networks to process joint displacements of individual body parts. The presented framework is validated using a dataset of ten rehabilitation exercises. The significance of this work is that it is the first that implements deep neural networks for assessment of rehabilitation performance.

A Deep Learning Framework for Assessing Physical Rehabilitation Exercises

Identity verification based on authenticity assessment of a handwritten signature is an important issue in biometrics. There are many effective methods for signature verification taking into account dynamics of a signing process. Methods based on partitioning take a very important place among them. In this paper we propose a new approach to signature partitioning. Its most important feature is the possibility of selecting and processing of hybrid partitions in order to increase a precision of the test signature analysis. Partitions are formed by a combination of vertical and horizontal sections of the signature. Vertical sections correspond to the initial, middle, and final time moments of the signing process. In turn, horizontal sections correspond to the signature areas associated with high and low pen velocity and high and low pen pressure on the surface of a graphics tablet. Our previous research on vertical and horizontal sections of the dynamic signature (created independently) led us to develop the algorithm presented in this paper. Selection of sections, among others, allows us to define the stability of the signing process in the partitions, promoting signature areas of greater stability (and vice versa). In the test of the proposed method two databases were used: public MCYT-100 and paid BioSecure.

A new algorithm for identity verification based on the analysis of a handwritten dynamic signature

The man–machine interface (MMI) is one of the most exciting areas of contemporary research. To make the MMI as convenient for a human as possible, it is desirable that efficient algorithms for recognizing body language are developed. This paper presents a system for quick and effective recognition of gestures of hand body language, based on data from a specialized glove equipped with ten sensors. In the experiment, 10 people performed 22 hand body language gestures. Each of the 22 gestures was executed 10 times. Collected data were preprocessed in multiple ways and three machine learning algorithms were designed based on classifiers (probabilistic neural network, support vector machine, and k-nearest neighbors algorithm) trained and tested by a tenfold cross-validation technique. The best designed classifiers gained effectiveness of gesture recognition at $\kappa$ = 98.24% with a very short time of testing, below 1 ms. The experiments confirm that efficient and quick recognition of hand body language is possible.

Hand Body Language Gesture Recognition Based on Signals From Specialized Glove and Machine Learning Algorithms

The falling down problem has become one of the very important issues of global public health in an aging society. The specific equipment was adopted as the detection device of falling-down in the early studies, but it is inconvenient for the elderly and difficult for future application. The smart phone more commonly used than the specific fall detection equipment is selected as a mobile device for human fall detection, and a fall detection algorithm is developed for this purpose. What the user has to do is to put the smart phone in his/her thigh pocket for falling down detection. The signals detected by the tri-axial G-sensor are converted into signal vector magnitudes as the basis of detecting a human body in a stalling condition. The Z-axis data sets are captured for identification of human body inclination and the occurrence frequencies at the peak of the area of use are used as the input parameters. A high-level fuzzy Petri net is used for the analysis and the development of identifying human actions, including normal action, exercising, and falling down. The results of this study can be used in the relevant equipments or in the field of home nursing.
