TL;DR: In this article, a conformal transformation scheme is proposed to solve the problem of lateral shift of the reflected light ray, which can hide an object on a reflecting plane, can operate over a broadband frequency range.
Abstract: With the advent and rapid development of the transformation optics and metamaterials, invisibility cloaks have captivated much attention in recent years. While most cloaking schemes suffer from limited bandwidth, the carpet cloak, which can hide an object on a reflecting plane, can operate over a broadband frequency range. However, the carpet cloaks experimentally realized thus far still have several limitations. For example, the quasi-conformal mapping carpet cloak leads to a lateral shift of the reflected light ray, while the birefringent carpet cloak only works for a specific polarization. In this work, we propose a conformal transformation scheme to tackle these two problems simultaneously. As an example, we design a mid-infrared carpet cloak in a silicon platform and demonstrate its polarization-insensitive property as well as the minimized lateral shift over a broad frequency band from 24 to 28.3 THz.

TL;DR: The effectiveness of the ground-plane invisibility cloak generated from quasiconformal mapping of electromagnetic space is examined, which shows that, for a bump with a maximum height of 0.2 units to be hidden, the lateral shift of a ray with 45° incidence is around 0.15 units.
Abstract: We examine the effectiveness of the ground-plane invisibility cloak generated from quasiconformal mapping of electromagnetic space. This cloak without anisotropy will generally lead to a lateral shift of the scattered wave, whose value is comparable to the height of the cloaked object, making the object detectable. This can be explained by the fact that the corresponding virtual space is thinner and wider than it should be. Ray tracing on a concrete model shows that, for a bump with a maximum height of 0.2 units to be hidden, the lateral shift of a ray with 45° incidence is around 0.15 units.

TL;DR: In this paper , two-dimensional acoustic waveguide unit cell structures for broadband acoustic metamaterials based on the concept of transformation acoustics are proposed and an acoustic carpet cloak and illusion medium are designed according to the introduced theory.
Abstract: We propose the design method for broadband acoustic metamaterials based on the concept of transformation acoustics. Two-dimensional distributed transmission-line (TL) models for full-tensor anisotropic electromagnetic metamaterials are applied to full-tensor anisotropic acoustic metamaterials and the design formulas are shown to uniquely determine the structural parameters of the unit cells. Two-dimensional acoustic waveguide unit cell structures for realizing the TL models are proposed and an acoustic carpet cloak and an acoustic illusion medium are designed according to the introduced theory. The complex sound pressure distributions in the acoustic waveguides of the unit cells are calculated by full-wave simulations to verify the validity of the proposed method, and the broadband operations of the designed carpet cloak and illusion medium are confirmed from the results.
