Journal ArticleDOI
A liver-stage-specific antigen of Plasmodium falciparum characterized by gene cloning.
Claudine Guerin-Marchand,Pierre Druilhe,Bénédicte Galey,Arturo Londono,Jintana Patarapotikul,Richard L. Beaudoin,Christine Dubeaux,André Tartar,Odile Mercereau-Puijalon,Gordon Langsley +9 more
TL;DR: The isolation of a DNA sequence coding for a P. falciparum liver-stage-specific antigen composed of repeats of 17 amino-acids, which is immunogenic in man is described here.
Journal ArticleDOI
FTO polymorphisms in oceanic populations
Jun Ohashi,Izumi Naka,Ryosuke Kimura,Kazumi Natsuhara,Taro Yamauchi,Takuro Furusawa,Minato Nakazawa,Yuji Ataka,Jintana Patarapotikul,Pornlada Nuchnoi,Katsushi Tokunaga,Takafumi Ishida,Tsukasa Inaoka,Yasuhiro Matsumura,Ryutaro Ohtsuka +14 more
TL;DR: The study of the FTO polymorphisms has generated no evidence to support the thrifty genotype hypothesis for Oceanic populations, and these variants were in strong linkage disequilibrium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extended linkage disequilibrium surrounding the hemoglobin E variant due to malarial selection.
Jun Ohashi,Jun Ohashi,Izumi Naka,Jintana Patarapotikul,Hathairad Hananantachai,Gary M. Brittenham,Sornchai Looareesuwan,Andrew G. Clark,Katsushi Tokunaga +8 more
TL;DR: The results support the conjecture that the HbE mutation occurred recently, and the allele frequency has increased rapidly, and provide another clear demonstration that a high-resolution LD map across the human genome can detect recent variants that have been subjected to positive selection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibody-Enhanced Binding of Dengue-2 Virus to Human Platelets
TL;DR: First evidence that dengue type 2 virus binds to human platelets only in the presence of virus-specific antibody is presented, supporting a role for immune-mediated clearance of platelets in the pathogenesis of thrombocytopenia in DHF/DSS.
Journal ArticleDOI
CD36 Polymorphism Is Associated with Protection from Cerebral Malaria
Kazuya Omi,Jun Ohashi,Jintana Patarapotikul,Hathairad Hananantachai,Izumi Naka,Sornchai Looareesuwan,Katsushi Tokunaga +6 more
TL;DR: Results of the present study suggest that LD mapping has potential for detecting a disease-associated variant on the basis of haplotype blocks and may be responsible for protection from cerebral malaria in Thailand.
