Abstract: Biopesticides are natural, biologically occurring compounds that are used to control various agricultural pests infesting plants in forests, gardens, farmlands, etc. There are different types of biopesticides that have been developed from various sources. This paper underscores the utility of biocontrol agents composed of microorganisms including bacteria, cyanobacteria, and microalgae, plant-based compounds, and recently applied RNAi-based technology. These techniques are described and suggestions are made for their application in modern agricultural practices for managing crop yield losses due to pest infestation. Biopesticides have several advantages over their chemical counterparts and are expected to occupy a large share of the market in the coming period.

Abstract: A reverse phase-liquid chromatographic method with UV detection at 280 nm is described for simultaneous determination of ceftriaxone sodium and vancomycin hydrochloride. Chromatographic separation of the two drugs was achieved on a Betasil C-1 column using a mobile phase consisting of a binary mixture of acetonitrile and triethylamine buffer adjusted to pH 3.5 0.1 with orthophosphoric acid in a ratio of 20:80. The liquid chromatographic method developed offers symmetric peak shape, good resolution, and reasonable retention time for both drugs. Linearity, accuracy, and precision were found to be acceptable over the concentration ranges 125-750 ppm for ceftriaxone and 62.5-375 ppm for vancomycin. The liquid chromatographic method was successfully applied to the quality control of formulated products, plasma, and cerebrospinal fluid samples containing ceftriaxone and vancomycin.

Abstract: A study was carried out to find out the effect of different levels of GA3, spacing and depth of planting on growth, flowering and corm production parameters in gladiolus cv. Candyman. The treatments consisted of four concentrations qf GA3 (0, 100, 250 and 500 ppm) as foliar spray, three plant spacings (20 × 20, 30×20 and 40 × 20 cm) and two depths of corm planting (5 and 10 cm). Gibberellic acid @ 100 ppm, plant spacing of 30x 20 cm and planting depth of 10 cm resulted in maximum plant height, number of leaves/plant, length of leaf and corm production.

Abstract: Compact, lightweight and low cost electronics components are attracting much attention because of the rapid growth of the wireless communication systems. The antenna designers are thus in continuous search for new advanced design of miniaturized antennas. One solution is to use a dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) which provides various benefits in terms of the performance. This paper presents fundamental concepts, theory and review study carried out on DRAs. The achievable performance of DRAs designed for wide impedance bandwidth, low profiles, circular polarization, compactness, and high gain are illustrated. The latest techniques for improving the results are also covered.

Abstract: The emergence of novel mechanisms of β-lactam resistance and their gain by infectious micro-organisms are posing a huge clinical threat to human health. It creates a need to generate novel resistant antibiotic molecules to counter their attack. In the present study, a novel strategy is developed to synthesise β-lactamase-resistant penicillin G molecules by using the unique properties of iron nanoparticles. Spherical monodispersed iron nanoparticles were prepared by a simple chemical reduction method. The formation process of the iron nanoparticles was investigated by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. Free amine groups introduced on the surface of native iron nanoparticles by coating a uniform layer of polyaniline were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Functionalised iron nanoparticles were then grafted to the C3 carboxyl group of the β-lactam ring of penicillin G in the presence of N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimi...

Abstract: Consumer concern about human and environmental health is encouraging food manufacturers to use more natural and sustainable food ingredients. In particular, there is interest in replacing synthetic ingredients with natural ones, and in replacing animal-based ingredients with plant-based ones. This article provides a review of the various types of natural emulsifiers with potential application in the food industry, including phospholipids, biosurfactants, proteins, polysaccharides, and natural colloidal particles. Increased utilization of natural emulsifiers in food products may lead to a healthier and more sustainable food supply. However, more research is needed to identify, isolate, and characterize new sources of commercially viable natural emulsifiers suitable for food use.

Abstract: A series of asymmetric dimers with an odd number of atoms in the spacer were found to form different types of twisted structures despite being achiral. The formation of a variety of helical structures is accompanied by a gradual freezing of molecular rotation. The tight pitch heliconical nematic (NTB) phase and heliconical tilted smectic C (SmCTB) phase are formed. In the lowest temperature smectic phase, HexI, the twist is expressed through the formation of hierarchical structure: nano-scale helices and mesoscopic helical filaments. The short pitch helical structure in smectic phases is confirmed by resonant x-ray measurements.
