An Obesity-Associated FTO Gene Variant and Increased Energy Intake in Children
TL;DR: The FTO variant that confers a predisposition to obesity does not appear to be involved in the regulation of energy expenditure but may have a role in the control of food intake and food choice, suggesting a link to a hyperphagic phenotype or a preference for energy-dense foods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obesity and dental caries in children: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Ceara Hayden,Jennifer O. Bowler,Stephanie Chambers,Ruth Freeman,Gerald Michael Humphris,Derek Richards,Joanne E. Cecil +6 more
TL;DR: Hayden et al. as discussed by the authors conducted a systematic search for papers between 1980 and 2010 addressing childhood obesity and dental caries and applied a random effects model meta-analysis applied on 14 papers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between Common Variation at the FTO Locus and Changes in Body Mass Index from Infancy to Late Childhood: The Complex Nature of Genetic Association through Growth and Development
Ulla Sovio,Dennis O. Mook-Kanamori,Nicole M. Warrington,Robert W. Lawrence,Laurent Briollais,Colin N. A. Palmer,Joanne E. Cecil,Johanna K. Sandling,Ann-Christine Syvänen,Marika Kaakinen,Lawrie J. TL;DR: The expected association between variation at rs9939609 and BMI in childhood is confirmed, but only after an inverse association between the same variant and BMIin infancy is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Behaviour and burnout in medical students
TL;DR: Health behaviours, particularly physical activity, predict components of burnout in medical students, and gender, year of study, gender, and physical activity also appear to influence the prevalence of burnouts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Energy intakes of children after preloads: adjustment, not compensation.
Joanne E. Cecil,Colin N. A. Palmer,Wendy L. Wrieden,Inez Murrie,C. Bolton-Smith,Peter Watt,Deborah J. Wallis,Marion M. Hetherington,Marion M. Hetherington +8 more
TL;DR: The children adjusted their EIs in response to different preloads, and the younger children did so more effectively than did the older children, indicating a more consistent response across preloads and a greater sensitivity to energy load by younger than by older children.
