Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of runs of homozygosity islands and estimates of genomic inbreeding in Gyr (Bos indicus) dairy cattle
Elisa Peripolli,Nedenia Bonvino Stafuzza,D. P. Munari,D. P. Munari,André Luis Ferreira Lima,Renato Irgang,Marco Antonio Machado,Marco Antonio Machado,João Cláudio do Carmo Panetto,Ricardo Vieira Ventura,Ricardo Vieira Ventura,Fernando Baldi,Fernando Baldi,Marcos Vinícius Gualberto Barbosa da Silva,Marcos Vinícius Gualberto Barbosa da Silva +14 more
TL;DR: Genes inside ROH islands suggest a strong selection for dairy traits and enrichment for Gyr cattle environmental adaptation and the existence of a moderate correlation between larger ROH indicates that FROH can be used as an alternative to inbreeding estimates in the absence of pedigree records.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accuracy of genomic predictions in Gyr (Bos indicus) dairy cattle
Solomon Antwi Boison,Adam Taiti Harth Utsunomiya,D.J.A. Santos,Haroldo H. R. Neves,Roberto Carvalheiro,Gábor Mészáros,Yuri Tani Utsunomiya,A. S. do Carmo,Rui da Silva Verneque,Maysa Machado,João Cláudio do Carmo Panetto,José Fernando Garcia,Johann Sölkner,M. V. G. B. da Silva +13 more
TL;DR: Results of genomic predictions in Gyr (Bos indicus) dairy cattle of Brazil for milk yield, fat yield, protein yield, and age at first calving using information from bulls and cows and the effect of lower SNP density on accuracy of prediction is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic parameters for test-day milk yield, 305-day milk yield, and lactation length in Guzerat cows
D.J.A. Santos,Maria Gabriela Campolina Diniz Peixoto,Rusbel Raul Aspilcueta Borquis,Rui da Silva Verneque,João Cláudio do Carmo Panetto,Humberto Tonhati +5 more
TL;DR: Genetic parameters obtained in this study indicated the possibility of using test-day records for the prediction of breeding values for milk yield in this population of the Guzerat breed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association studies for heat stress response in Bos taurus × Bos indicus crossbred cattle
Pamela Itajara Otto,Simone Eliza Facioni Guimarães,L.L. Verardo,Ana Luisa Sousa Azevedo,Jérémie Vandenplas,Claudia A. Sevillano,Daniele Botelho Diniz Marques,Maria de Fátima Ávila Pires,Célio de Freitas,Rui da Silva Verneque,Marta Fonseca Martins,João Cláudio do Carmo Panetto,W. A. Carvalho,Diego Ortunio Rosa Gobo,Marcos Vinícius Gualberto Barbosa da Silva,Marco Antonio Machado +15 more
TL;DR: This study allowed the identification of candidate genes for ΔRT in Gir × Holstein crossbred animals and revealed 6 SNP significantly associated with ΔRT, which could be explained by the fact that Holstein animals are more affected by heat stress than Gir animals and thus require a genetic architecture to defend the body from the deleterious effects of heat stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association studies for tick resistance in Bos taurus × Bos indicus crossbred cattle: A deeper look into this intricate mechanism.
Pamela Itajara Otto,Simone Eliza Facioni Guimarães,L.L. Verardo,Ana Luisa Sousa Azevedo,Jérémie Vandenplas,A. C. C. Soares,Claudia A. Sevillano,Renata Veroneze,Maria de Fátima Ávila Pires,Célio de Freitas,Márcia Cristina de Azevedo Prata,John Furlong,Rui da Silva Verneque,Marta Fonseca Martins,João Cláudio do Carmo Panetto,W. A. Carvalho,Diego Ortunio Rosa Gobo,Marcos Vinícius Gualberto Barbosa da Silva,Marco Antonio Machado +18 more
TL;DR: It is found that most animals classified as resistant showed 2 alleles from Gir breed, while the susceptible ones showed allele from Holstein, and the identified genes may be thoroughly investigated in additional experiments aiming to validate their effects on tick resistance phenotype in cattle.
