Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of the wheat curl mite as the vector of Triticum mosaic virus.
TL;DR: This study was conducted to determine if the wheat curl mite (WCM, Aceria tosichella) and the bird cherry oat aphid (Rhopalosiphum padi) could transmit TriMV, and it was shown the WCM is the vector ofTriMV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene Expression Patterns in Near Isogenic Lines for Wheat Rust Resistance Gene Lr34/Yr18
TL;DR: Mock-inoculated leaf tips of resistant plants showed up-regulation of 57 transcripts generally associated with ABA inducibility, osmotic stress, cold stress, and/or seed maturation, suggesting several transcripts may be useful as expression markers for Lr34/Yr18.
Journal ArticleDOI
A group of related cDNAs encoding secreted proteins from Hessian fly [Mayetiola destructor (Say)] salivary glands.
TL;DR: A group of cDNAs has been isolated and characterized from Hessian fly salivary glands and appear to encode proteins with secretion signal peptides at the N‐terminals, indicating a strong selection for mutations that generate amino acid changes within the coding region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using transcription of six Puccinia triticina races to identify the effective secretome during infection of wheat.
Myron Bruce,Kerri A. Neugebauer,David L. Joly,Pierre Migeon,Christina A. Cuomo,Shichen Wang,Eduard Akhunov,Guus Bakkeren,James A. Kolmer,John P. Fellers +9 more
TL;DR: Temporal expression profiles were developed for these genes by qRT-PCR and show that the genes expression patterns were consistent between races from infection initiation to just prior to spore eruption, suggesting new races emerge as a result of overcoming plant resistance via changes in the secreted effector proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene discovery in EST sequences from the wheat leaf rust fungus Puccinia triticina sexual spores, asexual spores and haustoria, compared to other rust and corn smut fungi
Junhuan Xu,Junhuan Xu,Rob Linning,John P. Fellers,Matthew Dickinson,Wenhan Zhu,Ivan Antonov,David L. Joly,Michael E. Donaldson,Tamar Eilam,Y. Anikster,Travis Banks,Sarah A. Munro,Michael Mayo,Brian Wynhoven,Johar Ali,Richard A. Moore,Brent McCallum,Mark Borodovsky,Barry J. Saville,Guus Bakkeren +20 more
TL;DR: The current set of Pt unigenes contributes to gene discovery in this major cereal pathogen and will be invaluable for gene model verification in the genome sequence.
