CSF progranulin increases in the course of Alzheimer's disease and is associated with sTREM2, neurodegeneration and cognitive decline
Marc Suárez-Calvet,Marc Suárez-Calvet,Anja Capell,Miguel Ángel Araque Caballero,Estrella Morenas-Rodríguez,Estrella Morenas-Rodríguez,Katrin Fellerer,Nicolai Franzmeier,Gernot Kleinberger,Erden Eren,Erden Eren,Yuetiva Deming,Laura Piccio,Celeste M. Karch,Carlos Cruchaga,Katrina L. Paumier,Randall J. Bateman,Anne M. Fagan,John C. Morris,Johannes Levin,Johannes Levin,Adrian Danek,Mathias Jucker,Mathias Jucker,Colin L. Masters,Martin N. Rossor,John M. Ringman,Leslie M. Shaw,John Q. Trojanowski,Michael W. Weiner,Michael Ewers,Christian Haass,Christian Haass +32 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that, although CSF PGRN is not a diagnostic biomarker for AD, it may together with sTREM2 reflect microglial activation during the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progress from Alzheimer's tangles to pathological tau points towards more effective therapies now.
TL;DR: Insights into mechanisms whereby pathological alterations in tau impair axonal transport resulting in neurodegeneration are summarized and how these insights are being exploited now to develop novel therapeutic interventions for the treatment of AD are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patterns of MRI atrophy in tau positive and ubiquitin positive frontotemporal lobar degeneration
Ellen J. Kim,Gil D. Rabinovici,William W. Seeley,Cathra Halabi,Huidy Shu,Michael W. Weiner,S.J. DeArmond,John Q. Trojanowski,Maria Luisa Gorno-Tempini,Bruce L. Miller,Howard J. Rosen +10 more
TL;DR: Optimised voxel based morphometry to brain MRIs from autopsy proven cases of tau positive frontotemporal lobar degeneration revealed that FTLD-T andFTLD-U both show atrophy in the frontal cortex and striatum, but striatal atrophy is more severe in FT LD-T.
Journal ArticleDOI
Medulloblastomas and related primitive neuroectodermal brain tumors of childhood recapitulate molecular milestones in the maturation of neuroblasts.
TL;DR: Recent data are reviewed that suggest that neoplastic cells in childhood primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) of the central nervous system may represent a cluster of molecular abnormalities that underly the emergence of the highly malignant phenotype that characterizes childhood PNETs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective Motor Neuron Resistance and Recovery in a New Inducible Mouse Model of TDP-43 Proteinopathy
Krista Spiller,Claudia Cheung,Clark R. Restrepo,Linda K. Kwong,Anna Stieber,John Q. Trojanowski,Virginia M.-Y. Lee +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that resistant MNs are able to compensate for the loss of their more vulnerable counterparts and change their phenotype in the process, which demonstrates the diversity of motor neuron (MN) populations in their response to pathological TDP-43.
