Clonal Isolation of Muscle-Derived Cells Capable of Enhancing Muscle Regeneration and Bone Healing
Joon Y. Lee,Zhuqing Qu-Petersen,Baohong Cao,Shigemi Kimura,Ron J. Jankowski,James H. Cummins,Arvydas Usas,Charley Gates,Paul D. Robbins,Anton Wernig,Johnny Huard +10 more
TL;DR: The purification of muscle-derived stem cells from the mdx mouse, an animal model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, yields a putative muscle- derived stem cell, mc13, that is capable of differentiating into both myogenic and osteogenic lineage in vitro and in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for skeletal progenitor cells in the degenerate human intervertebral disc.
Makarand V. Risbud,Asha Guttapalli,Tsung-Ting Tsai,Joon Y. Lee,Keith G. Danielson,Alexander R. Vaccaro,Todd J. Albert,Zulma Gazit,Dan Gazit,Irving M. Shapiro +9 more
TL;DR: The analytical data indicated that the pathologically degenerate human disc contained populations of skeletal progenitor cells, and these findings suggest that these endogenous progenitors may be used to orchestrate the repair of the intervertebral disc.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postoperative management protocol for incidental dural tears during degenerative lumbar spine surgery: a review of 3,183 consecutive degenerative lumbar cases.
Mustafa H. Khan,Jeffery A. Rihn,Garen Steele,Rick Davis,William F. Donaldson,James D. Kang,Joon Y. Lee +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a post-operative early mobilization protocol was proposed to treat the incidental dural tears (DTs) in degenerative lumbar spine surgery, which relies on early mobilization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2-Expressing Muscle-Derived Cells on Healing of Critical-Sized Bone Defects in Mice
Joon Y. Lee,Douglas S. Musgrave,Dalip Pelinkovic,Kazumasa Fukushima,James H. Cummins,Arvydas Usas,Paul D. Robbins,Freddie H. Fu,Johnny Huard +8 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates that cells derived from muscle tissue that have been genetically engineered to express BMP-2 elicit the healing of critical-sized skull defects in mice and appears to enhance bone-healing by differentiating into osteoblasts in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thoracolumbar injury classification and severity score: a new paradigm for the treatment of thoracolumbar spine trauma
Joon Y. Lee,Alexander R. Vaccaro,Moe R. Lim,F. C. Oner,R. John Hulbert,Rune Hedlund,Michael G. Fehlings,Paul Arnold,James S. Harrop,Christopher M. Bono,Paul A. Anderson,D. Greg Anderson,Mitchel B. Harris,Andrew K. Brown,Gordon H. Stock,Eli M. Baron +15 more
TL;DR: The Spine Trauma Group has developed a classification system and an injury severity score (thoracolumbar injury classification and severity score, or TLICS), which may facilitate communication between physicians and serve as a guideline for treating these injuries.
