TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of a content analysis about the handling of immigration information in Spanish press and TV news, according to the role of media in the formation of stereotypes and prejudiced attitudes toward immigrants.
Presents the results of a content’s analysis about the handling of immigration’s information in Spanish press and TV news, according to the role of media in the formation of stereotypes and prejudiced attitudes toward immigrants. This work is based in the famous Theory of Framing. Data was obtained between January and June of the year 2004, reviewing a complete week (randomly constructed) of TV’s informative prime time (TVE1, Antena 3, and Tele 5), and newspapers (El Pais, El Mundo, ABC, and La Razon), getting a total of 458 analysis units. Results show that most of the news refer to negative aspects, highlighting the news frame that links delinquency with immigration. Furthermore, news emphasizing this frame received a more privileged position. Also, TV tends to be more sensationalist in its information. Finally, a reflection is made about cognitive consequences of this practice, considering that this privileged position of negative news about immigration makes it more visible, converting a social process into a problem for public opinion.Key words: Immigration, content analysis, tv news, press, theory of framing.

TL;DR: In this paper, an estudio experimental sobre los efectos socio-cognitivos of las noticias sobre inmigracion is presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that the cleavage structure of the country, the strategy of competition of the mainstream right and the electoral system impeding their electoral breakthrough and persistence are three supply-side factors.
Abstract: Although there is growing research interest in populist radical right (PRR) parties in Western Europe, little attention has been paid to the case of Spain – a country where these parties are almost non-existent or irrelevant from an electoral and political point of view. In a nutshell, we maintain that in contemporary Spain there is real demand for PRR parties, but three supply-side factors are impeding their electoral breakthrough and persistence: the cleavage structure of the country, the strategy of competition of the mainstream right and the electoral system. At the same time, we postulate that at least in the case of Spain the Great Recession has not improved the electoral odds of the PRR as such but rather facilitated the emergence of leftist populist forces.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the relationship between political pluralism as a constitutional principle and the possibility of making such pluralism effective by the Mexican judiciary, specifically the Mexican Supreme Court, per the constitutional powers that were given to parliamentary minorities and partisan minorities to challenge before it in “Accion de Inconstitucionalidad” (unconstitutional law challenges).
Abstract: The research herein presented explores the relationship between political pluralism as a constitutional principle and the possibility, if such, of making such pluralism effective by the Mexican judiciary, specifically by the Mexican Supreme Court, per the constitutional powers that were given to parliamentary minorities and partisan minorities to challenge before it in “Accion de Inconstitucionalidad” (unconstitutional law challenges). It explores the influence that the different understandings of democracy have taken in these matters, from democracy as majority, democracy as pluralism and deliberative democracy. Approaching judicial behavior and case law observed by the Supreme Court in these filings, we seek to shape the judicial protection or enforcement of political minorities.

TL;DR: A review of framing in Spain can be found in this article, which examines the main developments made in framing theory since the 1950s to this day, as well as the development and current state of framing research in Spain.
EnglishFraming theory has experienced a rapid development since the mid-1960s, when it emerged in the field of sociology. Framing has become a multidisciplinary paradigm that allows the holistic study of media effects on individuals and audiences. Far from being exclusively located in the sender of information, framing is located in four elements of the communication process: the sender, the receiver, the (informative) message and culture. This article, in the form of a state of the art review, examines the main developments made in framing theory since the 1950s to this day, as well as the development and current state of framing research in Spain.

TL;DR: A review of the state of the art of the communication research about framing can be found in this paper, with a focus on the Spanish scientific community, identifying its main strengths and debilities.
Abstract: The Spanish Communication Research about Framing receives the legacy of the leading trends at the international sphere. However, the lack of powerful research teams and the prevalence of individual efforts locate the Spanish scholars at a secondary role in comparison with the leaders of this line of research. This paper reviews the state of the art of the Communication Research about Framing, offering a new distribution of this scientific production in four main fields and two general perspectives. After that, the analytical focus is reduced to the Spanish scientific community, identifying its main strengthens and debilities.
