According to the origin of the word "humanism" and the concept of humanitas where the former comes from, management could be called humanistic when its outlook emphasizes common human needs and is oriented to the development of human virtue, in all its forms, to its fullest extent. A first approach to humanistic management, although quite incomplete, was developed mainly in the middle of the 20th century. It was centered on human motivations. A second approach to humanistic management sprang up in the 80's and centered on organizational culture. This implied a wider approach to the human condition while taking into account the influence of culture on behaviors and decision-making, but it is incomplete, too. There is a third approach to humanistic management, which is still emerging, that considers a business enterprise as a real community of persons. That means promoting unity and favoring the acquisition of human virtues. This humanistic management approach is a real challenge in order to achieve a higher moral quality in management, human virtues among people and more efficient organizations.

The Challenge of Humanistic Management

Unraveling the pathways and neurobiological mechanisms that underlie the regulation of physical and emotional stress responses in humans is of critical importance to understand vulnerability and resiliency factors to the development of a number of complex physical and psychopathological states. Dysregulation of central stress response circuits have been implicated in the establishment of conditions as diverse as persistent pain, mood and personality disorders and substance abuse and dependence. The present review examines the contribution of the endogenous opioid system and mu-opioid receptors to the modulation and adaptation of the organism to challenges, such as sustained pain and negative emotional states, which threaten its internal homeostasis. Data accumulated in animal models, and more recently in humans, point to this neurotransmitter system as a critical modulator of the transition from acute (warning signals) to sustained (stressor) environmental adversity. The existence of pathways and regulatory mechanisms common to the regulation of both physical and emotional states transcend classical categorical disease classifications, and point to the need to utilize dimensional, "symptom"-related approximations to their study. Possible future areas of study at the interface of "mind" (cognitive-emotional) and "body" (physical) functions are delineated in this context.

Interface of physical and emotional stress regulation through the endogenous opioid system and μ-opioid receptors

Today, values hold a prominent place both in business ethics and in organization theory. However, there persists considerable confusion about what these values are and what role they play in these theories and, therefore, how they can be developed both within the individual and within the organization. Therefore, this paper seeks to define a conception of values based on a theory of human action that can provide a basis for an organization theory, and to propose a series of ideas about how personal and organizational values can be fostered.

Fostering values in organizations

The research herein presented explores the relationship between political pluralism as a constitutional principle and the possibility, if such, of making such pluralism effective by the Mexican judiciary, specifically by the Mexican Supreme Court, per the constitutional powers that were given to parliamentary minorities and partisan minorities to challenge before it in “Accion de Inconstitucionalidad” (unconstitutional law challenges). It explores the influence that the different understandings of democracy have taken in these matters, from democracy as majority, democracy as pluralism and deliberative democracy. Approaching judicial behavior and case law observed by the Supreme Court in these filings, we seek to shape the judicial protection or enforcement of political minorities.

Los valores constituyen un tema nuevo en la filosofia: la disciplina que los estudia -la axiologiaensaya su primeros pasos en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Es cierto que algunos valores inspiraron profundas paginas a mas de un filosofo, desde Platon en adelante, y que la belleza, la justicia, el bien, la santidad, fueron temas de viva preocupacion de los pensadores en todas las epocas. No es menos cierto, sin embargo, que tales preocupaciones no lograban recortar una region propia, sino que cada valor era estudiado aisladamente. La belleza, por ejemplo, interesaba por si misma y no como representante de una especie mas amplia. Si bien no se ha perdido interes en el estudio de la belleza, esta aparece hoy como una de las formas de una peculiar manera de asomarse al mundo que se llama el valor. Este descubrimiento es uno de los mas importantes de la filosofia reciente y consiste, en lo fundamental, en distinguir el ser del valer. Tanto los antiguos como los modernos incluian, sin tener conciencia de ello, el valor en el ser, y median a ambos con la misma vara. Los intentos de axiologia se dirigian, sin excepcion, a valores aislados y en particular al bien y al mal. El estudio de estos valores aislados adquiere hoy nueva significacion al advertirse el hilo sutil que los une y la proyeccion de luz sobre cada uno de estos sectores que arroja toda investigacion de conjunto sobre la naturaleza propia del valor. De ahi que tanto la etica como la estetica -de vieja estirpe filosoficahayan dado, en los ultimos anos, una gran paso adelante al afinarse la capacidad de examen del valor en tanto valor. No puede menospreciarse el descubrimiento de una nueva provincia del mundo. Si la filosofia tiende, por su misma esencia, a dar una explicacion de la totalidad de lo existente, cualquier hallazgo que ensanche nuestra vision sera un verdadero descubrimiento filosofico. Tanto o mas importante que una nueva explicacion del mundo es el descubrimiento de una zona antes no explorada, pues mal podra satisfacernos un esquema interpretativo si ha dejado fuera, por ignorarla, una region completa de la realidad. Todo descubrimiento polariza la atencion sobre lo descubierto, en pasajero menoscabo de lo ya sabido. La primera reaccion consiste en forzar las cosas para acomodarlas a la modalidad del recien llegado. Se pretende ver la totalidad del mundo a traves de la grieta abierta por el nuevo descubrimiento. Esto I explica la proliferacion de escritos sobre axiologia y la pretendida reduccion de la totalidad de la filosofia a la teoria de los valores. ?A que viene a agregarse esta nueva zona? ?Que regiones habian sido ya exploradas cuando se descubren los valores? Desde su iniciacion, la filosofia pretendio dar una vision abarcadora de la totalidad del mundo. Pero, en sus comienzos, confundio la totalidad con uno de sus aspectos. La filosofia occidental comenzo hace veintiseis siglos con una preocupacion sobre el ser del mundo exterior. Cuando los jonicos en el siglo VI a. c. se preguntan cual es el principio, o arche, de la realidad, entienden por realidad la naturaleza, el mundo exterior. De ahi que haya escogido como respuesta sustancias materiales, llamense agua, apeiron o aire. El mundo exterior es, pues, el primer tema de investigacion filosofica y las "cosas". En el sentido habitual del termino, la primera forma de realidad. Pero un pueblo de la capacidad racional del griego -se ha dicho mas de una Vf3Z, exageradamente, que el griego "descubre" la razonno podia conformarse con la contemplacion del mundo fisico, y pronto advierte que junto a ese mundo existe otro, de tanto mayor significacion que el anterior, un mundo ideal, digamos asi. Es el mundo de las esencias, los conceptos, las relaciones, esto es, de lo que hoy se denomina objetos ideales. Los pitagoricos, Socrates y Platon son los descubridores de este mundo de las esencias. A la realidad fisica ya los objetos ideales se agrego mas tarde el mundo psiquico-espiritual. Ademas de piedras, animales, rios y montanas, y de numeros, conceptos y relaciones, existen mis propias vivencias: mi dolor y mi alegria; mi esperanza y mi preocupacion, mi percepcion y mi recuerdo. Esta realidad es innegable; estaba, sin embargo, tan cerca del hombre que este tardo mucho tiempo en reparar en ella. Como el ojo que cubre ve las cosas exteriores y solo anos despues se descubre a si mismo -segun la analogia de Locke -el espiritu se volco primero hacia afuera y, una vez maduro, se replego sobre si mismo.
