The use of echocardiography in acute cardiovascular care: Recommendations of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and the Acute Cardiovascular Care Association
Patrizio Lancellotti,Susanna Price,Thor Edvardsen,Bernard Cosyns,Aleksandar Neskovic,Raluca Elena Dulgheru,Frank A. Flachskampf,Christian Hassager,Agnes Pasquet,Luna Gargani,Maurizio Galderisi,Nuno Cardim,Kristina H. Haugaa,Arnaud Ancion,José Luis Zamorano,Erwan Donal,Héctor Bueno,Gilbert Habib +17 more
TL;DR: The practical applications of echocardiography in patients with acute cardiac conditions, in particular with acute chest pain, acute heart failure, suspected cardiac tamponade, complications of myocardial infarction, acute valvular heart disease including endocarditis, acute disease of the ascending aorta and post-intervention complications are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved semiautomated quantification of left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction using 3-dimensional echocardiography with a full matrix-array transducer: comparison with magnetic resonance imaging.
Enrico G. Caiani,Enrico G. Caiani,Cristiana Corsi,José Luis Zamorano,Lissa Sugeng,Peter MacEneaney,Lynn Weinert,Roberto Battani,Juan Luis Gutierrez,Rick Koch,Leopoldo Pérez de Isla,Victor Mor-Avi,Roberto M. Lang +12 more
TL;DR: Semiautomated LV endocardial surface detection from FM3DE images is feasible and results in fast and accurate assessment of LV function, which resulted in higher levels of agreement with MRI than conventional 2-dimensional echocardiography, with lower interobserver variability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Open issues in transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Part 2: procedural issues and outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
Jeroen J. Bax,Victoria Delgado,Vinayak Bapat,Helmut Baumgartner,Jean-Philippe Collet,Raimund Erbel,Christian W. Hamm,Arie Pieter Kappetein,Jonathon Leipsic,Martin B. Leon,Philip MacCarthy,Nicolo Piazza,Philippe Pibarot,William C. Roberts,Josep Rodés-Cabau,Patrick W. Serruys,Martyn Thomas,Alec Vahanian,John G. Webb,José Luis Zamorano,Stephan Windecker +20 more
TL;DR: Complications such as prosthesis-patient mismatch and conduction abnormalities are discussed, as well as cerebrovascular events, which emphasize the development of optimal anti-coagulative strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-invasive assessment of cardiac physiology by tissue Doppler echocardiography. A comparison with invasive haemodynamics.
TL;DR: Tissue Doppler echocardiography has the potential to accurately measure the different phases of the cardiac cycle which until now could only be determined invasively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Open issues in transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Part 1: patient selection and treatment strategy for transcatheter aortic valve implantation
Jeroen J. Bax,Victoria Delgado,Vinayak Bapat,Helmut Baumgartner,Jean-Philippe Collet,Raimund Erbel,Christian W. Hamm,Arie Pieter Kappetein,Jonathon Leipsic,Martin B. Leon,Philip MacCarthy,Nicolo Piazza,Philippe Pibarot,William C. Roberts,Josep Rodés-Cabau,Patrick W. Serruys,Martyn Thomas,Alec Vahanian,John G. Webb,José Luis Zamorano,Stephan Windecker +20 more
TL;DR: Different areas of uncertainty related to patient selection and the use and limitations of risk scores are addressed, followed by an extensive discussion on the value of three-dimensional imaging for prosthesis sizing and the assessment of complex valve anatomy such as degenerated bicuspid valves.
