Journal ArticleDOI

High strain rate characterisation of unidirectional carbon-epoxy IM7-8552 in transverse compression and in-plane shear using digital image correlation

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation of strain rate effects on polymer-based composite materials is presented, where quasi-static and dynamic experiments at strain rates up to 350 s−1 were performed with end-loaded, rectangular off-axis compression and transverse compression specimens.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurement of resistance curves in the longitudinal failure of composites using digital image correlation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a new methodology to measure the crack resistance curves associated with fiberdominated failure modes in polymer-matrix composites, which is based on the identification of the crack tip location using Digital Image Correlation and the calculation of the J-integral directly from the test data using a simple expression derived for cross-ply composite laminates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of digital image correlation in investigating the bond between FRP and masonry

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the digital image correlation (DIC) and feature tracking techniques for investigating the evolution of strains and deformation during uniaxial tensile tests and shear debonding tests in externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) technique in FRP-masonry systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Size effects on the tensile and compressive failure of notched composite laminates

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental and analytical investigation of the effect of size on the strength of composite laminates with central holes loaded in tension and compression is presented, and the first-ply failure load of the outer ply is identified using a new method that postprocesses the displacement field obtained using the digital image correlation technique.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stereovision measurements on evaluating the modulus of elasticity of wood by compression tests parallel to the grain

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the longitudinal modulus of elasticity (EL) of maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait) by means of compression tests parallel to the grain.
