On the influence of cylindrical sub-micrometer confinement on heptyloxycyanobiphenyl (7OCB). A dynamic dielectric study

TL;DR: In this paper, the molecular dynamics of the liquid crystal heptyloxycyanobiphenyl (7OCB) in the bulk as well as confined to 0.2μm diameter parallel cylindrical pores of Anopore ® membranes in the isotropic and nematic phases were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Two-Component System CCl4 + CBrCl3. Inference of the Lattice Symmetry of Phase II of CBrCl3

TL;DR: In this article, the phase diagram of the two-component system between two halomethanes, carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and bromotrichloromethane (CBrCl3), has been determined by means of X-ray powder diffraction and thermal analysis techniques from 200 K to the liquid state.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical behaviour in liquid-crystalline phase transitions: a comparative study of 9OCB in bulk and Anopore membranes

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an experimental study on the critical behaviour of the nematic-toisotropic (N-I) and smectic A-to-nematic (SmA-N) phase transitions of the liquid crystal 4-nonyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyl (9OCB) liquid crystal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reentrant Behavior in Binary Mixtures of (Octyloxy)cyanobiphenyl (8OCB) and the Shorter Chain Homologue (Heptyloxy)cyanobiphenyl (7OCB)

TL;DR: In this paper, a stable phase diagram of the two-component system (heptyloxy)cyanobiphenyl (7OCB) + (octyloxy)-cyanogenobiphexyl (8OCB), which exhibits a monotropic reentrant nematic behavior was determined by means of modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC), optical microscopy, and X-ray diffraction measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Overall dielectric study on the odd members of a highly nonsymmetric pyrene-based series of liquid crystal dimers.

TL;DR: Broadband dielectric spectroscopy has been performed on the odd nonsymmetric liquid crystal dimers of the series α-(4-cyanobiphenyl- 4'-oxy)-ω-(1-pyreniminebenzylidene-4'-oxy) alkanes with n ranging from 3 to 11, as a function of temperature.
