TL;DR: In this article, a thin metal door frame becomes integral part of its own set jig until installation, after which the semi-permanent setting jig is removed, and temporary jigs are used in the method to set the minimum door width tolerance and to square the frame elements.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for squaring and decambering at the assembly plant, and shimming at the job site, a thin metal door frame wherein the frame becomes an integral part of its own setting jig until installation, after which the semi-permanent setting jig is removed. Temporary jigs are used in the method to set the minimum door width tolerance and to square the frame elements.

TL;DR: In this article, a sliding-able insertable sleeve is disposed inside the element and flanges which are spot welded to the back ends are used as carriers for various door hardware such as hinge reinforcement and strike plates, clips having bendable tabs and anchors.
Abstract: A metallic frame and, more particularly, a stainless steel door frame has a bent sheet metal frame element encompassing an inner space and the element has backbends which extend perpendicularly inward from the back ends of faces of the element. At least one slidably insertable sleeve is disposed inside the element and has flanges which are spot welded to the back ends. The sleeves serve as carriers for various door hardware such as hinge reinforcement and strike plates, clips having bendable tabs, and anchors.

TL;DR: An installation frame to facilitate the mounting of a door frame in a rough opening in a domestic or commerical structure which includes parallel stanchions to be disposed, and secured, one on each side jamb, of the prepared frame is described in this paper.
Abstract: An installation frame to facilitate the mounting of a door frame in a rough opening in a domestic or commerical structure which includes parallel stanchions to be disposed, and secured, one on each side jamb, of the prepared frame. The stanchions with suitable horizontal spacers, are secured inside the jambs and the assembly is placed in the rough opening in a building and clamped in place. A first pair of crossed cables extending from the corners indicates, by included measuring devices, whether the frame is square. A second set of crossed cables extending from the corners indicates, by the closeness of cables at the crossing point, whether the frame is in a single plane and not askew. Adjustments are made to insure squareness and proper plane position and then the prepared jamb is centered in the opening and nailed in place.

TL;DR: In this article, a trim installation tool includes a base with first and second ends, inner and outer faces, and opposite side edges, and an elongated level with an orientation display device.
Abstract: A trim installation tool includes a base with first and second ends, inner and outer faces, and opposite side edges. First and second clamp assemblies are mounted on the base in proximity to its first and second ends respectively. The clamp assemblies have engaged and disengaged positions for respectively clamping and releasing a wall edge adjacent to the wall opening. An elongated level with an orientation-display device is mounted on the base inner face and extends generally between the ends thereof. The orientation-display device indicates a level or plumb orientation of a trim piece clamped in position by the tool for attachment to the frame members surrounding the wall opening. In an alternative embodiment or aspect of the invention, a trim installation system and method are provided, which include a level and a trim piece spacer.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for installing and trimming a plurality of wooden mounting blocks within a roughed out door frame 100 to prepare the door frame to 100 to receive a finished door frame is described.
Abstract: A method and apparatus 10 for installing and trimming a plurality of wooden mounting blocks 110 within a roughed out door frame 100 to prepare the roughed out door frame to 100 to receive a finished door frame: wherein, the apparatus 10 includes a pair of vertical standard units 11 11' connected together by a pair of horizontally adjustable spreader units 12 12' that are adapted to cooperate with one another to conform to the outside dimensions of the finished door frame; wherein, each of the vertical standard units 11 11' is provided with a plurality of router templates 27 and means for plumbing each vertical standard unit relative to one of the vertical studs 101 101' in the roughed out door frame 100; such that the wooden mounting blocks 110 can be glued to the vertical studs 101 101' and then trimmed using the router templates 27 so that the trimmed mounting blocks 110 are perfectly aligned to receive the finished door frame.

TL;DR: In this paper, the shimless-shim employed with an edge member of a rough opening in a structure helps true up a jamb in the rough opening comprising a first member disposed parallel to the edge member having a length equal to the width of the edge members and the thickness of the wall boards attached to both edges of the member; a pair of a second members attached to the first member in a perpendicular relationship, the pair of second members being disposed in a spaced relationship with respect to each other to enable each of the second members to be disposed between a different one
Abstract: The shimless-shim employed with an edge member of a rough opening in a structure helps true up a jamb in the rough opening comprising a first member disposed parallel to the edge member having a length equal to the width of the edge member and the thickness of the wall boards attached to both edges of the edge member; a pair of a second members attached to the first member in a perpendicular relationship thereto, the pair of second members being disposed in a spaced relationship with respect to each other to enable each of the pair of second members to be disposed between a different one of the edges of the edge member and an adjacent one of the wall boards, the pair of the second members being adjustable in and out to assist in truing up the jamb in the rough opening; a first fastener is associated with the first member to enable fastening the jamb thereto; and a second fastener is associated with each of the pair of the second members and the edge member to secure the pair of second members to the edge member after the jamb has been trued up in the rough opening.
