Clinical outcomes of patients requiring ventilatory support in Brazilian intensive care units: a multicenter, prospective, cohort study
Luciano Cesar Pontes Azevedo,Marcelo Park,Jorge I. F. Salluh,Álvaro Réa-Neto,Vicente Ces de Souza-Dantas,Pedro Varaschin,Oliveira Mc,Paulo Fernando Guimarães Morando Marzocchi Tierno,Felipe Dal-Pizzol,Ulysses V. A. Silva,M Knibel,Antonio Paulo Nassar,Rossine A Alves,Juliana Carvalho Ferreira,Cassiano Teixeira,Valeria Rezende,Amadeu Martinez,Paula M Luciano,Guilherme Schettino,Marcio Soares +19 more
TL;DR: Current mortality of ventilated patients in Brazil is elevated and implementation of judicious fluid therapy and a watchful use and monitoring of NIV patients are potential targets to improve outcomes in this setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inclusion and exclusion criteria in research studies: definitions and why they matter
TL;DR: This work presents a meta-analysis of 139 cases of sepsis in Uruguay over a 10-year period and shows clear patterns of disease progression that are consistent with atypical coronavirus infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bilevel vs ICU Ventilators Providing Noninvasive Ventilation: Effect of System Leaks: A COPD Lung Model Comparison
Juliana Carvalho Ferreira,Daniel Chipman,Nicholas S. Hill,Robert M. Kacmarek,Robert M. Kacmarek +4 more
TL;DR: Clinicians should be aware that in the presence of leaks, most ICU ventilators require adjustments to maintain an adequate tidal volume, although the clinical significance of these differences is unclear.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photostability of different chlorine photosensitizers
Juliana Carvalho Ferreira,Priscila Fernanda Campos de Menezes,Cristina Kurachi,Claudio Sibata,Ron R. Allison,V. S. Bagnato +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the photodegradation of three different chlorine photosensitizers (Photoditazine, Radachlorin, and Foscan®) was analyzed by changes in the fluorescence spectrum during illumination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trigger Performance of Mid-Level ICU Mechanical Ventilators During Assisted Ventilation: A Bench Study
TL;DR: Some mid-level ICU mechanical ventilators had a much poorer triggering response with high inspiratory effort than the ICU ventilator and do not perform as well as ICU Ventilators in patients with high ventilatory demand.
