TL;DR: The study concludes with the remark that dependency of library and information professionals over available translation tools should be up to certain extent, i.e., only for the initial sorting of the document.
Abstract: Accessibility to other language web documents has always been a concern for information professionals. Many translation tools such as Babelfish and Cooglc Translator arc extensively used by librarians and information professional to meet the varying demand of their users. These tools though do not produce exact translated verse but provides gist of the information that could be used by the librarians to understand the type of information contained in the document. Thus, it is important for librarians and information professionals to know about the various possibilities available for translation as well as the technology being used for it. The papers follow ups the different approaches used for mechanization of translation process along with a discussion over their features and limitations. The study concludes with the remark that dependency of library and information professionals over available translation tools should be up to certain extent, i.e., only for the initial sorting of the document. The translation tools available cannot be used as regular content analysis tool.

TL;DR: An understanding of the global developments in the activities and services of libraries and information centers, the national environment, the outcome of National As- sessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the observations and recommendations arising from different national level seminars and workshops are developed to facilitate the assessment and accreditation of LIS education.
Abstract: This paper provides a brief overview of the present status and problems of Library and Infor- mation Science (LIS) education in Indian universities with an emphasis on the need for its internal qual- ity assurance and accreditation by an external agency. The University Grants Commission's (UGC) ef- forts for the improvement of quality of LIS education have also been highlighted. A set of objective in- dicators has been developed on the basis of an understanding of the global developments in the activities and services of libraries and information centers, the national environment, the outcome of National As- sessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the observations and recommendations arising from different national level seminars and workshops to facilitate the assessment and accreditation of LIS education.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore how the indigenous knowledge can best be managed in the libraries in order to contribute positively to the community, and highlight the IFLA mandate towards the management and preservation of IK.
Abstract: Indigenous knowledge (IK) is the knowledge that people in a given community developed over time, and has made positive contributions towards sustainable development. Indigenous communities around the world face ongoing threats to the survival of their indigenous knowledge in view of its tacit nature. Traditionally, libraries have concentrated more on promoting a reading culture than on managing and promoting IK. If IK is well documented, packaged and deposited in libraries and information centres, it could be directly accessed by individuals. The study explores how the indigenous knowledge can best be managed in the libraries in order to contribute positively to the community. Within this area of interest, this paper answers the question: what roles the library professionals can play in the management and preservation of IK. While highlighting the IFLA mandate towards the management and preservation of IK, different activities associated with the management of IK — such as, collection, recording and documentation, organization, preservation and storage, dissemination and networking are discussed. Concludes that library professionals need to be proactive in devising strategies for the management and preservation of IK with the help of their professional knowledge and skills in order to ensure access to this valuable resource.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors tried to map the resources (input) used for teaching LIS by comparing syllabuses of different Universities and Institutes and assess how far these resources co-relate in imparting LIS education with the today's market demand for LIS professionals, whether there are any gaps and recommendations to fill up those gaps.
Abstract: History and development of the LIS Education in India have been traced from its early inception up to today’s scenario Towards this discussion, different modes of LIS training have been delved intonamely, regular courses offered by the universities, specialized courses by NISCAIR (INSDOC), DRTC, NCSI, etc, distance education LIS courses offered by open as well as regular universities and also the certificate course offered by BLA and some other organizations Against this proliferation, this study tried to map the resources (input) used for teaching LIS by comparing syllabuses of different Universities and Institutes and to assess how far these resources co-relate in imparting LIS education with the today’s market demand for LIS professionals, whether there are any gaps and recommendations to fill up those gaps (if any) The basic issues to be addressed in this paper are the connectivity between uniting LIS education and manpower requirements to transform India of the 21st century into a knowledge society, as envisaged by the National Knowledge Commission (NKC) set up by the Prime Minister of India in 2005 with the challenging mandate to transform India of the 21st century into a knowledge society NKC has emphasized on trying to raising standards and promoting excellence in LIS education in the light of the country’s manpower requirement

Abstract: Information seeking is an impressive challenge and it is one of a substantial issue for Information Science. This study was undertaken to determine the information seeking behavior and library use by faculty members at the Agricultural University in Bangladesh. The overall purpose of the study was to determine what their information requirements and also determine their purpose of library services available for them in the library. The study collected data on the information requirements of faculty members. Data were gathered from 600 faculty members out of 905 through open and closed questionnaire. Findings indicate that guidance in the use of library resources and services are necessary to help them meet some of their information requirements. Finding also their seeking problems, using searching tools and level of satisfaction overall resources and services. Keyword: Information Needs, Seeking Behavior, Agriculture, and Resources. Introduction: The information use is a behavior that leads an individual to the use of information in order to need his/her information needs. Information use in an indicator of information needs, but they are not identical. Any individual do not use all the information they need. Information behavior is a broad term and encompassing the ways individuals articulate their information need, seek, evaluate and use information. In other words, information seeking behavior is purposive in nature and conspires of a need to satisfy some goal. The information seeking behavior of the faculty members as well as their information needs i.e., the information which is being sought may vary according to the age, sex, education, profession etc. So, the function of the libraries and the information seeking behavior of the users are to be correlated very carefully. Information seeking behavior involves the searching, locating, retrieving and using of information. This process is influenced by the personality, emotionality variable, and educational variables and demographical variables of the person who seeks information. The information searching and acquisition process has several components such as passive attention, passive search, active search and ongoing search (Aaker, et al, 1992). The faculty members contribute to the attainment of the broad objectives of the universities: teaching, research and community service. Faculty members provide academic guidance to students and extents the frontiers of knowledge through research and publication.

TL;DR: It is clear that the above can lead to confusion when scientists of different countries are trying to communicate with each other, so an internationally recognized system of naming organisms is created.
Abstract: It is clear that the above can lead to confusion when scientists of different countries are trying to communicate with each other. Another example is the burrowing rodent called a gopher found throughout the western United States. In the southeastern United States the term gopher refers to a burrowing turtle very similar to the desert tortoise found in the American southwest. One final example; two North American mammals known as the elk and the caribou are known in Europe as the reindeer and the elk. We never sing “Rudolph the Red-nosed elk”! Confused? This was the reason for creating an internationally recognized system of naming organisms. To avoid confusion, living organisms are assigned a scientific name based on Latin or Latinized words. The English sparrow is Passer domesticus or Passer domesticus (italics or underlining these two names is the official written representation of a scientific name). Using a uniform naming system allows scientists from all over the world to recognize exactly which life form a scientist is referring to. The naming process is called the binomial system of nomenclature. Passer is comparable to a surname and is called the genus, while domesticus is the specific or species name (like your given name) of the English sparrow. Now scientists can give all sparrow-like birds the genus Passer but the species name will vary. All similar genera (plural for genus) can be grouped into another, “higher” category (see below). Study the following for a more through understanding of taxonomy. Taxonomy Analogy Kingdom: Animalia Country

TL;DR: The analysis of 902 papers published by Indian scholars during 1995-2014 indicates that the main focus of bibliometrics/scientometrics is on assessment of science and technology in India in different sub-disciplines including contributions by Indian states and other individual countries followed by bibliometric analysis of individual journals as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: This part of the study highlights the contents of the published articles in terms of various disciplines or sub-disciplines and the bibliometric aspects discussed in these articles. The analysis of 902 papers published by Indian scholars during1995-2014 indicates that the main focus of bibliometrics/scientometrics is on assessment of science and technology in India in different sub-disciplines including contributions by Indian states and other individual countries followed by bibliometric analysis of individual journals. Papers dealing with bibliometric laws received a low priority as compared to other subdisciplines of bibliometrics/scientometrics. The analysis of data indicates that the share of theoretical studies using mathematical and statistical techniques which were missing in the earlier period (1970-1994) has increased during 1995-2014. The field of medicine as a discipline received the highest attention as compared to other disciplines.

Abstract: In the modern world, there is an increased need for language translations owing to the fact that language is an effective medium of communication. The demand for translation has become more in recent years due to increase in the exchange of information between various regions using different regional languages. Accessibility to web document in other languages, for instance, has been a concern for information Professionals. Machine translation (MT), a subfield under Artificial Intelligence, is the application of computers to the task of translating texts from one natural (human) language to another. Many approaches have been used in the recent times to develop an MT system. Each of these approaches has its own advantages and challenges. This paper takes a look at these approaches with the few of identifying their individual features, challenges and the best domain they are best suited to.

Abstract: The work in the area of machine translation has been going on for last few decades but the promising translation work began in the early 1990s due to advanced research in Artificial Intelligence and Computational Linguistics. India is a multilingual and multicultural country with over 1.25 billion population and 22 constitutionally recognized languages which are written in 12 different scripts. This necessitates the automated machine translation system for English to Indian languages and among Indian languages so as to exchange the information amongst people in their local language. Many usable machine translation systems have been developed and are under development in India and around the world. The paper focuses on different approaches used in the development of Machine Translation Systems and also briefly described some of the Machine Translation Systems along with their features, domains and
