TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discussed how the uncertainties in the thermal scattering cross sections of 2 H(n,n) 2 H and 16 O(n,n) 16 O propagate to the uncertainty of the calculated neutron multiplication factor, k eff, in thermal critical assemblies with heavy water neutron moderator/reflector.

TL;DR: Using a well-established nucleon-nucleon interaction that fits the NN scattering data (Bonn potential), and the AGS form of three-body theory, precise calculations of low-energy neutron-deuteron scattering are performed.
Abstract: Using a well-established nucleon-nucleon interaction that fits the NN scattering data (Bonn potential), and the AGS form of three-body theory, we perform precise calculations of low-energy neutron-deuteron scattering. There appear to be problems for this system in the ENDF/B-VI.8 (ENDF/B-VI.5 through VI.8) data library, which persist in the newest version, ENDF/B-VII.0. Supporting experimental data in this energy region are rather old (>25 years), sparse and often inconsistent. Our three-body results at low energies, 50keV to 10MeV are compared to the ENDF/B-VII.0 and JENDL-3.3 evaluated angular distributions. The impact of these results on calculated reactivity for various critical systems involving heavy water is shown.

Abstract: In the low-energy regime, differential cross sections for n + d elastic scattering are not well described in existing nuclear data libraries, such as ENDF/B-VII.0. Supporting experimental data in this energy region are old, sparse and often inconsistent. We have carried out calculations with the AGS three-body theory and the Bonn-B nucleon-nucleon potential at energies 50 keV to 10.0 MeV.

TL;DR: The ENDF/B-VII.1 library as mentioned in this paper is the most widely used data set for nuclear data analysis and has been updated several times over the last five years. But the most recent version of the ENDF-B-VI.0 library is based on the JENDL-4.0 standard.

TL;DR: High confidence in the MCNP6 code is based on its performance with the verification and validation test suites, comparisons to its predecessor codes, the regression test suite, its code development process, and the underlying high-quality nuclear and atomic databases.
Abstract: MCNP6 is simply and accurately described as the merger of MCNP5 and MCNPX capabilities, but it is much more than the sum of those two computer codes. MCNP6 is the result of five years of effort by ...
