TL;DR: The design and implementation of the Fiber Channel communication protocol based receiver on the FPGA have been proposed and designed to work in accordance to the point to point topology with the Class 3 services of Fiber Channel protocol.
Abstract: Communication protocols with the features like high data transmission rate, high bandwidth, low latency, flexible topology and long distance communication are being considered to be utmost important in the communication world. Fiber Channel communication protocol caters to these requirements and is a reliable communication protocol in present systems. The design and implementation of the Fiber Channel communication protocol based receiver on the FPGA have been proposed in this paper. The system is designed to work in accordance to the point to point topology with the Class 3 services of Fiber Channel protocol. The receiver is designed to receive the data through Gigabit Transceiver Port (GTP) from optical fiber. The proposed design was implemented on the Spartan-6 SP605 FPGA which has Small Form Factor Pluggable(SFP) which converts electrical signals into light signals to transmit data through optical fiber cable and vice versa.
