Journal ArticleDOI
Sympathetic and sensory neural elements in the tendon of the long head of the biceps
Kalliopi Alpantaki,David McLaughlin,Domna Karagogeos,Alexander G. Hadjipavlou,George M. Kontakis +4 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the tendon of the long head of the biceps is innervated by a network of sensory sympathetic fibers, which may play a role in the pathogenesis of shoulder pain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Motor vehicle trauma: analysis of injury profiles by road-user category
Haridimos Markogiannakis,Elias Sanidas,Evangelos Messaris,Dimitrios Koutentakis,Kalliopi Alpantaki,Alexandros Kafetzakis,D.D. Tsiftsis +6 more
TL;DR: A clear association is revealed between different road-user categories and age and sex incidence patterns, as well as outcomes and injury profiles, of motor-vehicle trauma patients in a Greek level I trauma centre.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thoracolumbar Burst Fractures: A Systematic Review of Management
Kalliopi Alpantaki,Artan Bano,Dritan Pasku,Andreas F. Mavrogenis,Panayiotis J. Papagelopoulos,George Sapkas,Demetrios S. Korres,Pavlos Katonis +7 more
TL;DR: The most suitable approach in cases such as these is discussed, specific treatment recommendations are highlighted, and a treatment algorithm is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential expression of cell cycle and WNT pathway-related genes accounts for differences in the growth and differentiation potential of Wharton's jelly and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells.
Aristea Batsali,Charalampos Pontikoglou,Dimitrios Koutroulakis,Konstantia I. Pavlaki,Athina Damianaki,Irene Mavroudi,Kalliopi Alpantaki,Elisavet Kouvidi,George M. Kontakis,Helen A. Papadaki +9 more
TL;DR: Both ex vivo-expanded MSC populations showed similar morphologic, immunophenotypic, survival and senescence characteristics and acquired genomic alterations at low frequency during passages and are anticipated to contribute to the better characterization of WJ-MSCs and BM- MSCs for potential clinical applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chitosan/gelatin scaffolds support bone regeneration
Anthie Georgopoulou,Anthie Georgopoulou,Fotios Papadogiannis,Aristea Batsali,John Marakis,John Marakis,Kalliopi Alpantaki,Aristides G. Eliopoulos,Aristides G. Eliopoulos,Charalampos Pontikoglou,Maria Chatzinikolaidou,Maria Chatzinikolaidou +11 more
TL;DR: Histological data following implantation of a CS:Gel scaffold into a mouse femur demonstrated that the scaffolds support the formation of extracellular matrix, while fibroblasts surrounding the porous scaffold produce collagen with minimal inflammatory reaction.
