The Book of L

This is a comprehensive (and friendly) introduction to membrane computing (MC), meant to offer both computer scientists and non-computer scientists an up-to-date overview of the field. That is why the set of notions introduced here is rather large, but the presentation is informal, without proofs and with rigorous definitions given only for the basic types of P systems — symbol object P systems with multiset rewriting rules, systems with symport/antiport rules, systems with string objects, tissue-like P systems, and neural-like P systems. Besides a list of (biologically inspired or mathematically motivated) ingredients/features which can be used in systems of these types, we also mention a series of results, as well as a series of research trends and topics.

Introduction to Membrane Computing

Regular, context-free and context-sensitive controls are imposed on the tables of TOLAS and the hierarchy established. The effect of control with appearance checking and minimal table interpretations are investigated over the tables of Part ETOLAS.It is interesting to note that the regular control on thc tables of Part DLTOLAS will not increase the generative capacity of Part DETOLAS.

On the generative power of simple H systems

Cross Layer Optimization (CLO) strategies are currently being incorporated in network operating system for efficient utilization of resources to enable effective information management. In wireless adhoc networks real time optimizations need to be performed and hence CLO strategies that have faster response time are required. In this paper we propose a Cross Layer Optimization strategy that uses a variant of the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for real time cross layer design of the network. The variant of the PSO used in this research work uses digital pheromones for improved performance. The proposed PSO-CLO strategy can be used for delay sensitive, bandwidth intensive and loss-tolerant wireless multimedia transmissions that have an ever demanding need for better Quality of Service. Our experimental results show that the proposed PSO-CLO strategy has significantly faster response time in comparison with the classical CLO solutions.

Real time cross layer design using particle swarm optimization

Contextual Grammars arc widely investigated as models of natural languages and currently find applications related to DNA Computing. In this paper, we extend the concept of control languages to contextual grammars. We prove that control languages indeed add to the power of contextual grammars and investigate certain hierarchy results.

Some results on contextual grammars

Spiking Neural P(SN P) system with anti-spikes uses two types of objects called spikes and anti-spikes which can encode binary digits in a natural way. We propose a formal method based on Petri nets, which provides a natural and powerful framework to formalize SN P systems with anti-spikes. This enables the use of existing tools for Petri nets to study the computability and behavioural properties of SN P systems with anti-spikes.
