Estimation of forest biophysical characteristics in Northern Michigan with SIR-C/X-SAR
Myron C. Dobson,Fawwaz T. Ulaby,Leland Pierce,Terry L. Sharik,Kathleen M. Bergen,Josef Kellndorfer,J.R. Kendra,E.S. Li,Yi-Cheng Lin,Adib Y. Nashashibi,Kamal Sarabandi,Paul Siqueira +11 more
TL;DR: The addition of X-SAR data to SIR-C was found to yield substantial further improvement in estimates of crown biomass in particular, and the statistical significance of this improvement cannot be reliably established until further data are analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Remote sensing of vegetation 3-D structure for biodiversity and habitat: Review and implications for lidar and radar spaceborne missions
Kathleen M. Bergen,Scott J. Goetz,Ralph Dubayah,Geoffrey M. Henebry,Carolyn T. Hunsaker,Marc L. Imhoff,Ross Nelson,Geoffrey G. Parker,Volker C. Radeloff +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a review of the state of the art for incorporating information on vegetation 3D structure into biodiversity and habitat science and management approaches, with emphasis on use of lidar and radar data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterizing 3D vegetation structure from space: Mission requirements
Forrest G. Hall,Kathleen M. Bergen,J. B. Blair,Ralph Dubayah,Richard A. Houghton,George C. Hurtt,Josef Kellndorfer,Michael A. Lefsky,Jon Ranson,Sassan Saatchi,Herman H. Shugart,Diane Wickland +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the importance of 3D vegetation structure and biomass measurements, and briefly review the feasibility of radar and lidar remote sensing technology to meet these requirements, to define the data products and measurement requirements, and consider implications of mission durations.
Journal ArticleDOI

McCarty,Qianlai Zhuang,Olga Zolina +31 more
TL;DR: The Northern Eurasia Future Initiative (NEFI) as discussed by the authors has been designed as an essential continuation of the NEESPI, which was launched in 2004 to elucidate all aspects of ongoing environmental change, to inform societies and to better prepare societies for future developments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inundation Extent and Flood Frequency Mapping Using LANDSAT Imagery and Digital Elevation Models
TL;DR: In this paper, the extent of inundation around Poyang Lake, China using 13 Landsat images and two digital elevation models (DEMs) was modeled using a Water Line DEM (WL-DEM).
